WWF Shotgun Saturday Night (April 12, 1997)

Original Airdate: April 12, 1997 (taped April 6)

From Muncie, Indiana; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Brian Pillman

Davey Boy Smith and Owen Hart v Bob Holly and Barry Horowitz: The WWF Tag Team title is not on the line here. Davey and Holly start, and Bob gets the better of a criss cross. Bulldog forces him into the heel corner for Owen to abuse, but Bob fights them off, and armdrags Smith. Tag to Horowitz for a 2nd rope axehandle, and he grabs an armbar, but Smith powers into a tag while in the hold. Owen works an armbar, and a criss cross allows him a drop-toehold, but Barry reverses a hammerlock. Horowitz shifts into a cradle for two, so Owen throws an elbow, but loses a criss cross to an armdrag. That allows Horowitz to stay on the arm, and he passes to Holly to do the same. Owen manages a single-arm DDT on Holly to shake him off, and Smith tags in to hold his own armbar. A criss cross sees Owen take a cheap shot from the apron, and the heels double team. They work to cut the ring in half on Holly, until Bob manages to block a charge from Davey in the corner, and he makes the hot tag. To Barry Horowitz. Horowitz quickly loses control, and Bulldog deliver the running powerslam at 8:14. This was pretty dull, though certainly competent. ¾*

Kevin Kelly brings Honky Tonk Man out, and he promises to get revenge on Jesse James for smashing his guitar, in the form of his new protege at In Your House

Bart Gunn v Leif Cassidy: Cassidy pounds him into the corner at the bell, but a cross corner whip gets reversed, sending Cassidy flipping over the buckles. Bart follows him to the outside, and he sends Cassidy arm-first into the post. Back in, Bart stays on the arm, until Cassidy manages to swipe at the leg. He hammers Bart down for a grapevine, but Gunn fights free. Gunn with a powerslam to set up mounted punches, but a trip to the top ends badly when Cassidy knocks him off. Cassidy goes in for the kill, but before he can, Mankind runs out to draw a no-contest at 3:42. ¼*

Billy Gunn v Freddie Joe Floyd: Pillman seems to be actively trying to get them thrown off the air with his commentary tonight. Freddie puts up a good fight here, before eating a tornado DDT at 6:41. This got too much time for what it was. ½*

Sunny is out to host Sunny Undercover, continuing her weekly gossip column. This segment is death, and the decision to end the show with it each week ensures that these episodes limp across the finish line

BUExperience: This one was kind of a drag.
