Original Airdate: June 20, 1987 (taped June 2)
From Buffalo, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon, Bruno Sammartino, and Jesse Ventura
The Hart Foundation v The Killer Bees: The WWF Tag Team title is not on the line. Jesse notes that Danny Davis is out there to keep an eye on the officiating, and considering the assigned official is Dave Hebner, I can’t poke any holes in that. Jim Neidhart and B. Brian Blair start, and Blair wins a criss cross with a schoolboy for two. Anvil pops up, so Blair armdrags him over, and tags Jim Brunzell in for a stereo backelbow for two. Brunzell tries an armbar, but Anvil muscles into the corner, and tags Bret Hart in. Bret wins a criss cross, and the Foundation take control of the action. Davis gets booted for interfering, allowing the Bees to put the masks on, and make a switch. Fresh, masked Blair turns things around on the Hitman, but Bret blocks a sunset flip by holding the middle rope for dear life. Brunzell sees this, and slingshots in with a sunset flip of his own past Blair for the pin at 4:32. That finish was great, great stuff. ¾*
Craig DeGeorge is in the studio for Update, giving us a look at Honky Tonk Man winning the WWF Intercontinental title on last week's show. We even get clips of Honky celebrating in the heel locker room, where former champion Randy Savage endorses him
George Steele v Al Navarro: Is the crowd booing Steele? It kind of sounds like they are, but the sound quality isn’t great here, so I’m not sure. Danny Davis split screens in here, promising to finish off Steele. It’s like Danny Davis Day here. Steele with a hammerlock submission at 1:19. DUD
Gene Okerlund catches up with Brutus Beefcake, who is doing his best Hulk Hogan impression now that he’s a babyface
We get clips of the Jumping Bomb Angels working in Japan, as an introduction to them
The Can-Am Connection v Dave Wagner and Rick Renslow: Even Jesse can’t help but put them over here. Bobby Heenan and the Islanders split screen in here, promising that they’re not done with the Connection yet. A missile dropkick/bearhug combo finishes at 2:54. ¼*
Okerlund catches up with Jake Roberts, who promises to take Honky to see the Rolling Stones, I think
Killer Khan v Brian Costello: Khan with a flying kneedrop at 1:38. They spent the entire match trying to convince us that Khan is a threat to Hulk Hogan’s title, but I’m just not buying it. DUD
Jake Roberts hosts the Snake Pit, with guests Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, and they immediately don’t like one another because Savage is very much a Honky booster. Especially since Macho has moved on from wanting the Intercontinental title, as he’s gunning for the big prize now. See, now that I buy as a threat
DeGeorge is in the control center with more on old man Billy Graham
Eight-Man Tag Team Match: Paul Orndorff, King Kong Bundy, Harley Race, and Hercules v Paul Roma, Jim Powers, Don Driggers, and Mario Mancini: This is Orndorff’s return, in his first outing since March. And he gets to finish with a nice piledriver at 3:37. DUD
BUExperience: This version omits a Billy Jack Haynes squash. The rest was fine.
