NWA (WCW) Power Hour (May 25, 1990)

Original Airdate: May 25, 1990 (taped May 14)

From Indianapolis, Indiana; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Paul E. Dangerously

Tommy Rich v Green Shadow: Gosh, just how many random masked dudes existed in the big two during the late 80s/early 90s. And then it just sort of faded away by the mid-90s, when squash matches fell by the wayside. Dangerously does a bit here where he pretends his fielding calls from David Letterman, which feels like an extremely 90s thing. Though, the entire 90s, in this case. Rich with a Thesz press at 7:15. DUD

Brian Pillman encourages us not to change the channel, because Air Pillman is taking flight against Bam Bam Bigelow later

Gordon Solie is at the Armory in Washington DC, with the building empty following Capital Combat. He gives us highlights and results from the pay per view

The Fabulous Freebirds v Denny Cass and Scott Sandlin: Dangerously singing Badstreet USA is something. Michael Hayes with the DDT at 9:17. Way too long. DUD

Jim Cornette hosts the Louisville Slugger, with guests Mark Callous and Teddy Long. Long immediately announces that he’s selling Mark’s contract to Dangerously, to which Cornette advises him to ‘make sure he gets cash.’ Paul promises to take Mark to the world title

Brian Pillman v Bam Bam Bigelow: Bigelow powers him around at the bell, so Brian uses speed to dodge him in the corner, and Pillman throws a series of chops. Pillman looks for a takedown, but Bigelow blocks, and hammers him with forearms. Clothesline, but Pillman ducks. Brian rebounds with a bodypress, but Bigelow catches him, and drops down into a backbreaker. Pillman dodges him in the corner again, and he throws a dropkick, allowing him to unload a ten-punch - until Bigelow drops him with an inverted atomic drop. Bam Bam with an axehandle for two, and he grounds Brian in a chinlock from there. Bigelow with a pop-up flapjack to set up a headbutt drop for two, and he goes back to the chinlock. Pillman tries to fight him off in the corner, but Bigelow thumps him with a turnbuckle smash, only to miss a corner splash. That allows Brian another dropkick, and he corners Bam Bam with chops. Bigelow shakes him off with a headbutt, and he throws Pillman over the top, but Brian skins the cat. That allows Pillman to get to the top with a flying bodypress, but Bigelow catches him, and dumps him over the top (successfully this time) for the DQ at 6:38. This was mostly okay, but didn’t really get past first gear. ¾*

BUExperience: This was fine. The squashes were too long, but Pillman/Bigelow was at least interesting.
