WWF Prime Time Wrestling (July 20, 1987)

Original Airdate: July 20, 1987

Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan from the studio

The New Dream Team v Sivi Afi and Lanny Poffo: From Superstars of Wrestling on July 11 (taped June 23) in Indianapolis Indiana. Johnny Valiant split screens in, also promising to bring in Bam Bam. The heels work Afi over right away, as Brutus Beefcake shows up to do guest commentary. Dino Bravo misses a 2nd rope legdrop, allowing the hot tag to Lanny, and he runs wild on Dino. A bodyslam sets up a flying moonsault for two, with Greg Valentine making the save. That allows the heels to cut Poffo off, and Valentine gets the figure four on at 3:31. Afterwards, Valentine won’t release the hold, so Beefcake runs in to make the save. DUD

Outback Jack v Jose Estrada: From Philadelphia Pennsylvania on June 20. Didn't we just get a match between them from New York a week or two ago? Joined in progress with Jose in control, but Jack says ‘no way, Jose,’ and finishes Malas Noticias Brown at 5:14 shown of 8:24. DUD

From Superstars, Jake Roberts hosts the Snake Pit, with guest Mr. T. T talks about his new role as the enforcer of the WWF, when Danny Davis shows up, annoyed that T is walking around claiming to be an official

Leilani Kai and Judy Martin v The Jumping Bomb Angels: From Louisville Kentucky on June 24. The WWF Women's Tag Team title is not on the line. The Angels blitz Kai, and go to work with quick tags. Kai manages to make a tag, but Martin quickly gets into trouble as well. The Angels use speed to dominate, but eventually get clobbered, and the heels take over. A hot tag puts a stop to that, and the Bomb Angels run wild, and a sunset flip gives them the non-title win at 11:51. ½*

Gene Okerlund catches up with Don Muraco and Bob Orton, who deny that there is dysentery in the their ranks

The Young Stallions v The Shadows: From Philly on June 20. The Stallions are subbing for the Rockers here, after the Rockers got fired after one night in the promotion. The Stallions get the win when Paul Roma comes off the top with a flying sunset flip at 15:17. ¼*

Demolition v B. Brian Blair and SD Jones: From Kitchener Ontario Canada on June 1. Jones is subbing for Jim Brunzell here, and even wears the Killer Bees’ gear. I’m guessing the mask gimmick isn’t an option tonight, however. Meanwhile, Demolition are getting big babyface pops here already. Jones looks for a sleeper during a big brawl, but falls prey to a double team at 9:18. ¼*

Gorilla and Bobby move over to another studio, where Heenan has a doctor waiting, ready to give a full report and answer any questions about Bobby’s injured neck. Gorilla, of course, is immediately combative, and acts like an asshole. The doctor tries to examine Heenan, but he gets tired of Monsoon’s insults, and walks out

Nikolai Volkoff v Billy Jack Haynes: From Rochester New York on June 3. Haynes doesn’t even attack during the anthem! What kind of 80s babyface is he?! Posturing to start, and Volkoff gets control, pounding on Billy. Volkoff tries an overhead wristlock, but Billy powers him to the mat, and grabs an armbar, until Volkoff gets the ropes. Billy grabs a headlock after they break, but Volkoff gets into the ropes again, and throws chops on the break. Billy fights him off, and gets Volkoff down in a chinlock next. Slick takes a shot with his cane to break it up, and the referee misses it. That allows Volkoff to go to town, but Billy hangs tough, and catches him with a backelbow. He puts on the full nelson, but Volkoff is in the ropes. Slick goes after him again, so Billy gives chase this time, and steals the cane. He makes the mistake of using it on Volkoff in full view of the referee, however, and that’s a DQ at 4:29. ¼*

BUExperience: Kind of a breeze to watch, but not good.
