NWA (JCP) World Championship Wrestling (January 3, 1987)

Original Airdate: January 3, 1987 (taped December 28, 1986)

From Atlanta, Georgia; Your Hosts are Tony Schiavone and David Crockett

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are out, and they want Paul Jones to sign the contract, and put his team’s title on the line

Brad Armstrong v Kent Glover: Brad with a Russian legsweep at 3:52. And they still don’t have the balls to call it by the proper name, the cowards. DUD

Jim Cornette is out, and he’s talking tough, since Big Bubba Rogers is watching his back

The Rock 'n' Roll Express v Allen Martin and Zane Smith: The Express with stereo dropkicks at 2:20. DUD

NWA United States Tag Team Champions Ron Garvin and Barry Windham are out, and apparently Cornette has been making a play for Windham, though Barry is not interested. Well, Jim would end up eventually managing him in 1998, during that stupid NWA revival angle in the WWF. So, I guess he was persistent

NWA Television Champion Tully Blanchard is out, and he’s so confident that he’ll retain his title later on that he’s putting up a $10,000 bonus if Tim Horner manages to beat him. And that will apply to all future challengers as well. Also, they’re willing to extend the time limit for defenses. I don’t think these two understand the concept of ‘leverage.’ What would Sadusky say?

Ron Garvin v White Knight: Garvin with the knockout punch for the pin at 1:49. DUD

Dick Murdoch is out, and feeling like an old man. Looking like one, too

Barry Windham v Randy Barber: Windham scores the pin at 1:44. Making it snappy. DUD

Cornette is back out, and still threatening the Road Warriors in Scaffold matches. The man does not understand the concept of a blowoff, does he?

The Midnight Express v George South and Mike Jackson: Dennis Condrey puts this away for the Express at 4:45. DUD

NWA World Champion Ric Flair is out, and he’s putting over the Scaffold matches as well. Does he not have his own business to mind?

Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson are out, and Ole realizes that his time as an active competitor is almost running out, so he’s going to make sure he breaks all the heads he can before it does

NWA Television Title Match: Tully Blanchard v Tim Horner: Barry Windham is out to do commentary on this one. Tim dominates on the mat early on, and he sinks his teeth into a hammerlock. Horner dives with a 2nd rope bodypress, but Blanchard manages to roll through for the pin at 15:18. Barry runs in to protest, since Blanchard had a handful of tights, but the Horsemen are out, and beat him down. ½*

Rick Rude and Manny Fernandez v Alan West and Eddie Roberts: The NWA World Tag Team title is not on the line for this. The champs rush in, and quickly squash these geeks at 0:50. Afterwards, they swing by the desk to laugh off the challenge of the Road Warriors. DUD

Ivan Koloff is out, excited to introduce us to Vladimir Petrov

Handicap Match: Vladimir Petrov v Bill Mulkey, Randy Mulkey, and Bill Tabb: This is Petrov’s debut, and he quickly ends Tabb at 0:31. Looking at this dude, I’m not at all surprised to learn that he was trained by the Road Warriors. He looks like the third Warrior. Afterwards, Petrov swings by the desk, and he’s breathing very, very heavily for a dude who just worked all of thirty seconds. DUD

Dick Murdoch v Henry Rutley: Captain Underpants! Murdoch with a brainbuster at 4:14. DUD

NWA United States Champion Nikita Koloff is out to react to Petrov

Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson v David Isley and Larry Stephens: Arn finishes up for the Horsemen here at 3:21. DUD

Nikita Koloff v Chance McQuaid: The NWA United States title is not on the line here. Koloff with the Sickle at 0:35. DUD

The Road Warriors are out, and they don’t give a flying fart about Manny Fernandez

The Road Warriors v Clement Fields and Dave Spearman: Oh, you’d better believe that the Warriors murder these guys at 0:48. DUD

BUExperience: Petrov is here. Nothing much else to show for our two hours, though.
