NWA (WCW) Power Hour (June 15, 1990)

Original Airdate: June 15, 1990

Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Sting from the studio

Barry Windham v Johnny Ace: From the June 9 episode of World Championship Wrestling (taped May 29) in Roanoke Virginia. Their hairstyles are too similar here, it’s confusing. Windham dominates here, with Ace continually coming up with hope spots. Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson, and Sid Vicious make their way out as Windham misses an elbowdrop, so Sting, Paul Orndorff, and Junkyard Dog show up to make sure they stay out of things. Barry tosses Ace to the outside, where the babyface crew tend to him. I can’t help but chuckle at how everyone is dressed in regular stuff, except for Sid, who is wearing a full blown tuxedo out here. Ace manages to get back in, so Windham casually chucks him over the top rope for the DQ at 5:26. Afterwards, the babyfaces stand behind Johnny, and Rocky King runs out to give them an extra babyface for backup. ¼*

Arn Anderson v Rocky King: The NWA Television title is not on the line for this, and it’s also from the June 9 World Championship Wrestling. Ross notes that this is Arn’s attempt to ‘prove that the Horsemen are superior to Rocky King.’ That needs to be proved? Arn goes an proves it, until the Horsemen run in to beat up King for the intentional DQ at 2:18. Afterwards, the Horsemen deliver a beatdown, but Sting, Orndorff, and JYD save. DUD

Gordon Solie is in the studio for Wrestling News Network, which is a recap of Clash of the Champions

Stan Hansen v Ralph Hodges: From World Wide Wrestling on June 9 (taped May 29) in Roanoke. Stan attacks before the bell, and goes to town, in his usual brutal fashion. But, he gets too brutal with the bullrope, and gets disqualified for 0:42. This episode is becoming like a highlight reel for jobbers. DUD

Buddy Landel v Lee Scott: From the June 9 World Wide. Landel with an elbowdrop at 1:20. DUD

Jim Cornette is in the studio for the Louisville Slugger, with guests the Fabulous Freebirds. They aren’t even doing these in the arenas anymore, what a rip

The Rock 'n' Roll Express v The Fabulous Freebirds: From the June 9 World Wide. Robert Gibson and Jimmy Garvin start, and they trade off. Eventually, things break down, and Roseanne Barr the door, with Gibson hitting Michael Hayes with a bodypress at 5:48. This was kind of a lot of nothing. ¼*

Doom v Brian Pillman and Tom Zenk: The NWA World Tag Team title is not on the line for this. This is from Pro on June 9 (taped May 29) in Roanoke. Gosh, how many shows did they air on June 9? Ron Simmons starts with Tom, and they do a test-of-strength. Tag to Brian, and Pillman tries holding a wristlock, but Ron easily escapes. Tag to Butch Reed, but Brian reverses him into the ropes, and delivers a hiptoss. A dropkick sends Reed to the outside, and Pillman cracks him with a chop on the way back in. Irish whip, but Reed reverses, and nails Brian with a high knee. Reed with a clothesline to set up a pair of elbowdrops for two, and he goes to a chinlock from there. The work Brian over, but Pillman manages to get the hot tag, and Roseanne Barr the door! Zenk gets Ron in a sleeper, but Reed dives off the top with a flying clothesline to save, and that allows Simmons to score the pin at 6:19. ¾*

BUExperience: Boy, this went from ‘arena show,’ to ‘studio show,’ to ‘recap show’ in record time.
