NWA (JCP) World Championship Wrestling (November 8, 1986)

Original Airdate: November 8, 1986 (taped November 2)

From Atlanta, Georgia; Your Hosts are Tony Schiavone and David Crockett

Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express are out right away, and they’re not worried about the Road Warriors’ threats ahead of the Scaffold match at Starrcade. In fact, they’re making threats of their own

Six-Man Tag Team Match: Bobby Eaton, Dennis Condrey, and Big Bubba Rogers v Tony Zane, Vernon Deaton, and Brodie Chase: The heels all storm the ring, and just beat everybody up, before we get a super rocket launcher (with Bubba doing the dive) at 2:38. DUD

NWA World Champion Ric Flair is out, and he’s bouncing around so much that poor Tony is having a hard time keeping the microphone steady. Never would happen to Mean Gene. Just saying. He’s ready for whatever ‘challenge’ Nikita Koloff thinks he can bring

Tony and Jim Crockett are in the control center for the Starrcade Report. Why is there footage of Abdullah the Butcher playing in the background? He was in World Class at the time

Ivan Koloff and Krusher Khruschev v John Savage and Mike Simani: The NWA United States Tag Team title is not on the line for this one. The Russians with a combo, and Ivan adds a legdrop at 0:45. That legdrop was about as necessary as Sgt. Slaughter’s elbowdrop on Ultimate Warrior at Royal Rumble ‘91. DUD

NWA United States Champion Nikita Koloff and NWA Television Champion Dusty Rhodes are out to scream about the Horsemen. In varying accents! That leads Ivan and Krusher to get in their faces, and they beat up Dusty, until Nikita makes the save to cement his allegiances

NWA World Tag Team Champions The Rock ‘n’ Rolls Express are out, and they’ve requested a cage match with the Horsemen at Starrcade because, yeah, it’s dangerous… but they hate them that much

Arn Anderson v Eddie Roberts: Arn is pissed about the Express’ interview, and kills the jobber with a gourdbuster at 0:24. DUD

Rick Rude and Manny Fernandez recently tried to hang Wahoo McDaniel at a live event

Wahoo is out, and he did not appreciate the attempted hanging. What a wet blanket

Tully Blanchard is out, and he’ll take that TV title back from Dusty at Starrcade

Jimmy Garvin v Pablo Crenshaw: Garvin’s entrance is just so damn long. Luckily, the match isn’t, as he finishes Pablo off with a brainbuster at 0:39. DUD

Rude and Fernandez are out, and they’ve got an open contract

Jimmy Garvin and Bill Dundee are out, since we haven’t ruined the ozone layer enough for one episode

Recently, Jimmy Valiant showed us Big Mama’s hair

Brad Armstrong v Grim Reaper: Is that the same outfit and mask they used for the Black Scorpion later on? Brad with a Russian legsweep at 0:37. DUD

The Russians are back out, fuming at Nikita’s betrayal

BUExperience: This was a lightning fast episode, and I’m on board with it. Less is more with this show.
