NWA (WCW) Power Hour (May 18, 1990)

Original Airdate: May 18, 1990 (taped May 2)

From Greenwood, South Carolina; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Paul E. Dangerously

Handicap Match: Mark Callous v Lee Scott and Dave Diamond: Dangerously is back, and immediately jumps on the Mark Callous bandwagon. The guy always had an eye, give him that much. Callous kills both guys with heart punches at 5:02. A little long for a squash, but Mark continues to look impressive. DUD

Gordon Solie catches up with NWA World Champion Ric Flair, and his ponytail

Solie is in the studio with Wrestling News Network, doing a final push for Capital Combat

Capital Combat ad

The Fabulous Freebirds v Pat Rose and Ricky Nelson: Speaking of extremely long squashes, this is another one that just drags on and on. The Freebirds with stereo DDTs on the jobbers for simultaneous pins at 8:53. DUD

Solie catches up with NWA United States Champion Lex Luger, and his ponytail. Lex is going to achieve his destiny, and finally become world champion at Capital Combat

Jim Cornette hosts the Louisville Slugger, where he moderates a debate between NWA World Tag Team Champion Rick Steiner and Teddy Long. Cornette, of course, won’t let Steiner actually say anything, and when Rick finally loses his cool, Doom runs in to jump him. They go to work, until Scott Steiner makes the save. Simple and effective

Animal v Samoan Savage: Posturing to start, dominated by Animal. Animal makes the mistake of trying a facebuster, however, and Savage pops up with a clothesline. Animal shrugs it off with a powerslam, and adds an elbowdrop for two. Animal works a wristlock, and a superplex gets two. A shoulderblock gets two, and a powerslam follows, so Fatu runs in for the DQ at 7:10. Norman the Lunatic makes the save, so Kevin Sullivan, Cactus Jack, and Bam Bam Bigelow run out to give the heels the advantage again. They deliver a beat down, but the Steiner Brothers, Brian Pillman, and Tom Zenk are out to chase them off. ¼*

BUExperience: They were pushing the pay per view very hard, but the actual action this week was rough going.
