WWF Superstars of Wrestling (July 11, 1987)

Original Airdate: July 11, 1987 (taped June 23)

From Indianapolis, Indiana; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon, Bruno Sammartino, and Jesse Ventura

Ken Patera v Iron Mike Sharpe: Jesse making fun of Patera never gets old. Almost as good as when Bobby does it. Patera gets the bearhug on at 2:53. DUD

Craig DeGeorge is in the studio with Update, giving us a look at Ted DiBiase

Six-Man Tag Team Match: King Kong Bundy, Harley Race, and Hercules v Paul Roma, Mario Mancini, and Jim Evans: Bobby Heenan split screens in here, still promising that he’ll be managing someone called ‘Bam Bam Bam.’ That’s an extra ‘Bam,’ this week. I’m afraid to see where this goes by next week. Though, the announcers discuss him as ‘Bam Bam Bigelow,’ so, sadly, likely no additional ‘Bams’ forthcoming. For now. Bundy with an avalanche and an elbowdrop at 2:10. DUD

Gene Okerlund catches up with Brutus Beefcake, who is ready to tune up Greg Valentine

The Can-Am Connection v Terry Gibbs and Dusty Wolfe: The Islanders split screen in here, and promise to ‘get wild’ with the Connection. The Connection with a combo on Wolfe at 2:55. ¼*

Okerlund catches up with WWF Champion Hulk Hogan, who is ready for Killer Khan - and Mr. Fuji, too

Jake Roberts v Brian Costello: Jake with the DDT at 1:40. The referee gave him the Earl-Hebner-WrestleMania-Main-Event-Slow-Count special there. And it wasn’t even one of the Hebner’s! DUD

DeGeorge is in the control center, with a look at Danny Davis’ various misdeeds

Clips of Ventura in Predator

The New Dream Team v Sivi Afi and Lanny Poffo: Johnny Valiant split screens in, also promising to bring in Bam Bam. The heels work Afi over right away, as Brutus Beefcake shows up to do guest commentary. Dino Bravo misses a 2nd rope legdrop, allowing the hot tag to Lanny, and he runs wild on Dino. A bodyslam sets up a flying moonsault for two, with Greg Valentine making the save. That allows he heels to cut Poffo off, and Valentine gets the figure four on at 3:31. Afterwards, Valentine won’t release the hold, so Beefcake runs in to make the save. DUD

DeGeorge is with Butch Reed, who is still unimpressed with Superstar Billy Graham’s feats of strength, and promises to give us a proper posing routine next week

Honky Tonk Man v Omar Atlas: The WWF Intercontinental title is not on the line. I still don’t get how they ever thought Honky would fly as a babyface. He’s the quintessential heel! Jimmy Hart split screens in here, telling everyone else to back off, because Bam Bam is going to be his man. Honky with the swinging neckbreaker at 1:39. DUD

Okerlund catches up with Hercules, who is ready to break Ken Patera

BUExperience: I found this one to be a little aimless. There are plenty of angles, but no big, overarching angle to carry the promotion.
