WWF Prime Time Wrestling (August 3, 1987)

Original Airdate: August 3, 1987

Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan from the studio

Rick Rude v Jerry Allen: From New York City on July 25. Lord Alfred Hayes actually has the chutzpah to try and compare jobber Jerry’s physique to Rude’s. Rick with a backbreaker rack at 7:55. Not exactly top form stuff from Rude. He was a strong worker, but had a long way to go before he evolved into an entertainer. DUD

Craig DeGeorge is in the studio with Update, giving us clips of Sherri Martel defeating Fabulous Moolah to win the WWF Women’s title on July 24 in Houston Texas

Ted DiBiase vignette. This week, Ted gets a couple thrown out of the honeymoon suite of a hotel. “Don’t feel bad. Ten years from now, they’ll probably want separate rooms.” DiBiase is amazing

From Wrestling Challenge, DeGeorge brings Ron Bass out for a podium interview, who sounds like he needs serious therapy

Outback Jack v Johnny K-9: From Toronto Ontario Canada on June 28. Johnny misses a dive off the top, allowing Jack to go on the comeback trail, and he finishes with a bulldog at 3:11. DUD

Jake Roberts hosts the Snake Pit, with guests Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth. Savage is fuming about WWF Intercontinental Champion Honky Tonk Man talking shit about him

Brutus Beefcake v Johnny Valiant: From Boston Massachusetts on July 11. Valiant sneak attacks, and chokes Beefcake down in the corner, all while talking serious trash. Beefcake fights him off, and goes to work with a variety of turnbuckle smashes. Beefcake with a sleeper to put it away at 3:27, and poor Johnny has to take another haircut. Well, it couldn’t get any worse at that point. DUD

Dino Bravo v Brady Boone: From NYC on July 25. Hayes notes that Boone isn’t giving ‘anything’ away to Bravo, except a ‘tremendous’ amount of weight. Little thing like that, why even bother mentioning it? Bravo with a sidewalk slam at 11:29. This was insanely long. ½*

Gene Okerlund catches up with WWF Tag Team Champions The Hart Foundation, who take credit for pink becoming a fashion trend

Tito Santana v Nikolai Volkoff: From NYC on July 25. Joined in progress with Tito working the arm with holds. Volkoff fights him off, and works a choke, as he takes control. Volkoff works him over in dull fashion, and he grabs a bearhug, looking for the submission. Volkoff works that, until Tito furnishes an escape, and tags him with a jumping forearm at 7:07 shown of 8:21. Boy, this sucked. DUD

WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Hart Foundation v Rick Martel and Junkyard Dog: From Glens Falls New York on July 15. Bret Hart and Martel start, and Rick uses a pair of armdrags to send the Hitman to the outside. That draws Jim Neidhart in, but Martel is ready for him, and the champions both end up on the outside. The dust settles back on Hart and Martel, and Bret tries suckering him, but Martel is too sharp for him. Hart tries a sunset flip, but Martel reverses the cradle for two, and tags out. Bret bails to break the momentum, and passes to Jim. We have DeGeorge and Bruno Sammartino doing the commentary here, and it’s an odd pairing, if nothing else. And speaking of ‘odd,’ Dog hooks the oddest looking cradle on Neidhart for two. A headbutt sends Jim running to the outside, but Anvil manages a wristlock on the way back in. JYD reverses, but a headbutt drop misses, allowing Anvil a clothesline. Tag to Bret for some double teaming, and the Foundation go to work on Dog. Rick catches a tag, but the champs cut off a comeback, and go to work on him instead. Rick suffers through and hangs tough until the Foundation collide on a double team effort, and JYD gets the hot tag - Roseanne Barr the door! JYD gets into trouble in the heel corner, and the Foundation hit him with a modified Hart Attack (with Bret coming off the top), but the official decides to call a DQ off of it (for double teaming) at 12:04. Seriously?! *

BUExperience: We’re back to this show soaking the cork, I see.
