ECW Television Title Match: Mikey Whipwreck v Sandman: From Philadelphia Pennsylvania on July 15. Sandman beats the champion into the corner right away. They spill to the outside, where Mikey nearly gets into it with Woman, so she starts beating him with the kendo stick for the DQ at 3:31. Afterwards, Sandman keeps going with the kendo, and various guys run in to try and save. No one succeeds, until Tommy Dreamer runs in. He manages to fight them off, and even gives Woman a forced kiss, but Sandman comes back at him with the kendo to turn it back around. Sandman beats the holy hell out of him, as Woman smokes a cigarette, enjoying the display. DUD
Backstage, Sandman and Woman laugh it off, and remind us rule #1: never touch Woman
Terry Funk v Kyle Scherer: From Philadelphia Pennsylvania on July 15. Joey notes that there will be a tournament to crown a new NWA World champion soon, and that ECW will be involved. Oh, I’ll say. He also notes that Dreamer has suffered a concussion, but is refusing to go to the hospital, since he doesn’t want to miss his shot at Shane Douglas later. Funk with the spinning toehold at 4:09. DUD
Cactus Jack wants another round with Sabu. If he’s got the guts
ECW Tag Team Champions Public Enemy reminisce about all the teams they’ve beaten
ECW Champion Shane Douglas thinks Dreamer was a fool for getting involved with Sandman when he was supposed to face Shane. I love how he makes sure to compare himself to Bret Hart, Ric Flair, and Hulk Hogan, as if he’s even in the same league. Funny bit, as he calls Hogan ‘sixty pound weight loss shriveled up’
ECW Title Match: Shane Douglas v Tommy Dreamer: From Philadelphia Pennsylvania on July 15. A battered and bruised Dreamer hits the ring, but Shane pounds him down in the corner, and puts the boots to him. Shane with a dropkick, and he hammers away from there. Dreamer manages a powerslam, so Shane tries a headlock, but Tommy suplexes him to break it. A criss cross ends in both men looking up at the lights, and Tommy recovers first. Shane goes over the top to sell a cross corner whip, and Dreamer follows to beat on him with a chair out there. Mr. Hughes nails Tommy to slow that down, and Douglas capitalizes with a bodyslam as they head back in. Shane adds a kneedrop, and goes to work - complete with assistance from Hughes. Shane delivers a piledriver, but doesn’t cover. Instead, he throws a jumping forearm, and goes back to pounding. He works Dreamer over, but never makes a pin attempt, until the referee checks Dreamer, and rules him as unable to continue at 7:48. Shane’s offense was laughable here, especially for a guy who constantly reminds us that he’s ‘better’ than the real stars of wrestling. Afterwards, Shane continues the assault, giving Dreamer the chance to sell his second severe beat down of the episode. ½*
BUExperience: Some interesting stuff on the angle front, if not much else.
