NWA (ECW) Eastern Championship Wrestling (September 28, 1993)

Original Airdate: September 28, 1993

Your Host is Joey Styles from the control center

Hunter Q. Robbins III hates Philadelphia. But loves Sabu. That’s like someone who loves carrots, but hates carrot soup. Or hates peas, but loves pea soup. Craziness

We get a preview of the various people competing in the Fall Fashion Swimwear Showdown at Bloodfeast. This came off very weird and bush league. Emphasis on ‘bush,’ I guess

ECW Pennsylvania State Title Match: Tony Stetson v Tommy Cairo: From Philadelphia Pennsylvania on August 8 1993. Tony attacks ahead of the bell, unloading in the corner, and clotheslining his challenger down. Tony puts the boots to him, as Joey announces that Stetson will be reforming his tag team with Johnny Hotbody for Bloodfeast. Back in for a test-of-strength, with Tony taking a cheap shot, but Cairo monkeyflipping him. Tony bails, and manages to hammer Cairo on the way back in, and a snapmare allows him a chinlock. Tony with a kneedrop, but Cairo fights back with a backdrop driver, and he makes a comeback. Belly-to-belly suplex gets Tommy two, and an elbowdrop follows. Overhead suplex gets two, so Tony bails, and gets control again when coming back in. Tony with a bodyslam, but Cairo gets fired up again, and cross corner whips him for a corner backelbow for two. Vertical suplex gets Cairo two, so Tony mulekicks him, and connects with a jumping clothesline. He grabs the title belt to make sure, and he brains Cairo for the pin at 7:33. A decent match, though kind of pointless, considering the title they were fighting over had already been abandoned by the time this aired. *

Joey gets really serious as he talks about the heinous attack Rockin’ Rebel perpetrated on Salvatore Bellomo, and basically writes Sal’s career off. If you ever need proof that the WWF was bankrolling this promotion, look no further than this, as Joey refers to their brand of ‘sports entertainment’

Salvatore Bellomo v Wolfman: From Philadelphia Pennsylvania on August 8 1993. Bellomo rakes the back to start, and snapmares Wolfman over, so Wolfman starts biting his leg. Yeah, my dog does that same thing. Try a figure four next time, that’ll get his attention. Wolfman has tattoos all over his head like Bam Bam Bigelow, which is quite a look to commit to. Bellomo with a splash for two, and then another splash for three at 3:24. This was really bad. If this was supposed to make us miss Bellomo (since this was his ‘last unaired match’ prior to the injury), it did not do the job. -½*

Public Enemy don’t think so. Yeah, they definitely look like two guys who don’t think

BUExperience: This show still isn’t good, but it’s definitely gotten better since Paul Heyman took the reins. Not unlike when he took the reins on Smackdown in 2002. Or the Reigns today.
