HITMAN383 Re-Rant for WCW/Mandalay Video 'Best of' Series (Great American Bash, Fall Brawl)

- One more before I get to KOTR ’98.

- I explained the concept of these in Mandalay Rant I, so if you don’t know, you’re just not cool. I’m sorry.

- On today’s Hitlist: The Best of the Great American Bash & The Best of Fall Brawl. (This was originally written in the Spring of 2002)

HITMAN383 Re-Rant for WCW/Mandalay Video 'Best of' Series (Bash at the Beach, Halloween Havoc, Starrcade)

- Back in 1999, WCW started releasing a lot of “Best of INSERT PPV NAME HERE” tapes, little one hour clip job deals, and selling them for like $10.00. I bought all of them (minus Uncensored), and my first tape reviews were on these. They are still up at my Rant Center, and back when I sent those in to the OLD Rantsylvania (pre when it was RS.com, and it was this long geocites-likes address) I thought they were pretty good. Today they don’t quite hold up. (This was originally written in the Spring of 2002)

HITMAN383 Rant for Mandalay Video: The Best of WCW Starrcade

My Rant for "WCW's Best of Starrcade 1983-1990" (Originally written during the Summer of 1999)

Monday, December 28, 2015

HITMAN383 Rant for Mandalay Video: The Best of WCW Halloween Havoc

- Hey, it's Mean Gene ... and he's telling me Halloween Havoc scares fans. Does he mean it sucks? Wanna hear the ULTRA stupid line he uses? "Hello fans ... or should I say Halloween." I can tell this tape will be bad already. He also tells me this tape will haunt me forever. (This was originally written in the Summer of 1999)

HITMAN383 Rant for Mandalay Video: The Best of WCW Fall Brawl

- I want to note the cover of the tape (Like every other "Best of" WCW video, except Starrcade) has nothing to do with the tape. On the front it has K-dog & Hall, and Hogan/Flair from Havoc '94. The back has the 3 "happy" guys in WCW: Raven/DDP/Lodi (See, because Raven, DDP, and Lodi were all gay, per super accurate online message boards at the time) (DDP is the only one on this) and the side has Goldberg who isn't here. (This was originally written in the Summer of 1999)

HITMAN383 Rant for Mandalay Video: The Best of WCW Bash at the Beach

- We start with more Mean Gene telling us how Bash at the Beach has changed wrestling. Does he mean the mini movies? Or Dennis Rodman and Karl Malone wrestling? I guess he means "changed for the worse." Anyway.... (Originally written in during the Summer of 1999)

HITMAN383 Rant for Mandalay Video: The Best of WCW Great American Bash

- We start with Mean Gene telling us Great American Bash has been making WCW more fun. Watch Gene's lips ... they don't match what he's saying ... odd. (Maybe he was speaking Japanese? This was originally written in May 1999)

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Thunder (October 18, 2000)

- The HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Thunder, 10/18/00! Just so all you guys know, I’m not a big WCW fan, and haven’t watched in a while, so I may not be up to score with the angles and stories. Then again this IS Russo we’re talking about, and angles don’t last for more than one show ANYWAY, so I should be okay. (This was originally written around when it aired, October 2000)

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Spring Stampede 1999

- As I said, I take a break from my trek thru the WrestleMania's to do a rant on a tape I picked up this week, "Spring Stampede 1999," Probably the last GOOD WCW PPV to date. Lets see how it turns out, shall we? (That places this as originally written in early June 2000)

Sunday, December 20, 2015

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Halloween Havoc 1998

- Lucky You! A special HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Halloween Havoc 1998. Why is it special? Because it’s FREEZING outside, and I ain’t going out, so you guys get a rant! What a deal! (Upstate New York winters! Everybody wins! This was originally written in early 2000)

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Clash of the Champions XXXIV

- Okay folks, it's 1997 WCW, and they are #1 at this point, even though the WWF was getting there. Lets get the rant, shall we? (This is Clash XXXIV, from January 1997. Originally written during the summer of 2000)

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Clash of the Champions XXXIII

- Back to when the nWo just started ... it's WCW Clash of the Champions from late 1996. (AKA Clash XXXIII from August 1996, in the show’s dying days) Let's go back to the LAST TIME a big time face turned heel, and why he does it *SO* much better than Goldberg. (The Goldberg heel turn reference means this was originally written in the summer of 2000)

Original Airdate: November 7, 1985

From Chicago, Illinois; Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura. There’s a very weird NWA vibe for this entire show, from the camera angles, to the non-standard WWF referees seen throughout, down to the smaller ring setup which doesn’t even feature the usual turnbuckle pads. Visually, it’s a very jarring.

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Starrcade 1994

- The HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Starrcade 1994. I’ve never actually seen this one before, but it DOES have a Hulk Hogan vs. Brutus Beefcake MAIN EVENT, so how bad could it be? Right? RIGHT? Well, wish me luck. (This is actually the very last Rant ever done during the HITMAN383 days – originally posted on October 11, 2002)

HITMAN383 Re-Rant for WCW Spring Stampede 1994

- Lets go back to a time before WCW was bought out by the WWF. A time when WCW not only put on good wrestling, but made money too. A time before Hulk Hogan. So, lets head back to 1994 for the HITMAN383 Re-Rant for WCW Spring Stampede 1994. (This was originally written in 2001)

- As some of you must know, I DID already do a rant for this one, but it was REALLY early in my tape reviewing days, and I don’t like the original that much. Future re-rants: Some of the WCW Videos featured in the “compilation tapes” section of my site. (As noted before, back when there wasn’t the WWE Network, I was at the mercy of local video stores for my reviewing. So when fresh stuff ran out, there was nothing to do but go back and re-review stuff. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still a lot of value to re-reviews, and I plan on doing some on this site as well, but with so much content available on the WWE Network, it’s hard to justify redoing a show when there’s so many classic cards that haven’t even been covered yet)

I’m not a big fan of this stadium (I’m into more symmetrical designs), but damn is that an impressive crowd on TV – especially bathed in sunlight. HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Slamboree 1993

- As promised, the HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Slamboree 1993. This one should be subtitled “I hate am a masochist” because no one in their right mind should ever watch this. (As this rant should have been titled ‘I hate proofreading’) Except us tape reviewers, of course. This is the Turner Home Video version, BTW, and some matches are cut. DAMN! I wanted to see that Sid vs. Van Hammer match so bad! (This was originally written in late 2000)

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Beach Blast 1992

- The HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Beach Blast 1992 (Turner-Home Video version). This was during the infamous Bill Watts era, when everything was weird. Jumping off the top rope? HELL NO! Pads on the floor? GOOD-BYE! Sounds like fun, eh? (This was originally written in 2000)

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Great American Bash 1991

- The HITMAN383 Rant for WCW Great American Bash 1991. This has been called the worst PPV of ALL time, and comes off right after the firing/quitting of Ric Flair. The fans were RIGHTLY pissed, and continually chanted “We Want Flair” throughout this whole show. It’s really interesting to watch. (This was originally written in 2000, while WCW was still alive)

HITMAN383 Rant for WCW WrestleWar 1991

- The HITMAN383 Rant for WCW WrestleWar 1991. This was requested by a reader, and despite how much I hate this show, I went out and rented it anyway. Where’s my sentimental “awww” anyway? (Yeah, I remember that. I had to go to this out of the way rental place that had a decent selection of WCW tapes to get it from. Good thing the Network didn’t exist back then – I’d probably have never graduated high school if it had)
