HITMAN383 Rant for Mandalay Video: The Best of WCW Fall Brawl

- I want to note the cover of the tape (Like every other "Best of" WCW video, except Starrcade) has nothing to do with the tape. On the front it has K-dog & Hall, and Hogan/Flair from Havoc '94. The back has the 3 "happy" guys in WCW: Raven/DDP/Lodi (See, because Raven, DDP, and Lodi were all gay, per super accurate online message boards at the time) (DDP is the only one on this) and the side has Goldberg who isn't here. (This was originally written in the Summer of 1999)

I use this system: ***** - Excellent **** - Very Good *** - Good **- Okay * - Decent DUD - Awful.

- We start with Mean Gene telling us about Fall Brawls history. HEY ... he doesn't make a fool of himself.

- We get 1995 with Flair vs. Anderson to start. They both get a pop, and WCW makes this out as a classic with wrestlers watching from ringside. Fat Tony kisses WCW's ass. This match is during the 1995 "Horsemen break up" angle. They start with mat stuff, and Bobby says this CLASSIC line: "It's like watching the Clinton's fight ... no one wants that!" It's 1995, so it has less meaning =) Both guys oversell everything. Anderson works on the arm for 10 minutes, while Fat Tony gives us a history lesson. Flair flip sequence WORKS for Ric! (You would think, of all people, Arn would be ready with a counter there) Flair gets the Figure Four, but Arn reverses (after a while) and Ric gets the ropes. After that Arn can't stand up. Eventually Brian Pillman (RIP) climbs up and clocks Flair, for the DDT and the 3. This was OK, but not a CLASSIC. Still, ***.

- 1994 follows (Only in WCW does 1994 follow 1995) with Cactus Jack vs. Kevin Sullivan, and the loser LEAVES WCW. Wait, so the loser gets the prize? Anyway, a face pop for Jack, and Sullivan draws heel heat nicely. They brawl all over the ring area, and ring for a while. SUPER BUMP, with Jack getting tossed off the top rope to the exposed floor. OUCH. After some more fighting, Jack gets the big elbow for 2. Then Sull. is about to bash Cactus with the chair, but Dave Sullivan pulls the chair, and Foley charges, but hits Dave and Kev. gets 3! This was OK. **.

- 1997 follows with The Steiners and Harlem Heat. Pump is big and has black hair here. Both teams do their usual. Eventually Booker T. gets a cross body for 2, and then Rick cleans house, gets the bulldog on Stevie, for 2. This ends when the Steiners do a "Clostesline/German suplex combo" (Sweet one) for 3. This is OK stuff. But not "good." this is WCW, so what do I want? * 1/4.

- Gene makes a fool of himself explaining War Games.

- We get War Games rules from the old WCW announcer (Gary Cappeta).

- 1995, Zodiac/Shark/Kamala/Meng (DOD) vs. Hogan/Macho/Sting/Luger. I always thought the DOD was cool. (You’re an idiot then. I mean, I guess the concept on an alliance to end Hulkamania wasn’t bad, but the guys they used to work the angle with, and the tendency towards ridiculously over the top goofiness killed it) Sting and Shark start, and then other guys come it. Clear enough? Lots of fighting happens until the climax starts when the faces fight eachother, then Hogan gets a a clutch on Zodiac and wins. Hulk gets 5 minutes with Sullivan, and kicks his ass! Then... HEY IT'S THE BIG SHOW, and he kicks Hulk's ass while the announcers make Andre references. Yawn. Bad match. * 1/2.

- 1996 follows with team nWo vs. team WCW. Hogan/Hall/Nash/? Man vs. Anderson/Luger/Flair/? Man. Hogan has NO heat. The tape starts when everyone's already in, during the Match beyond portion. And the nWo Sting is the last NWO guy, and everyone thinks it's the real Sting. He kicks ass on the faces, BTW. WCW's guy, is, guess who... Sting. He kicks nwo ass, then leaves. This would lead to his silence for not trusting him. "Sting" gets the Deathlock on Lex to win. This match is Bad because it's cut so much. I don't know how the full version looks. Bobby tells Tony to shut up at various points =) nwo beat down occurs to a "we want Sting" chant. Macho then attacks Hogan, but the Giant saves Hulk. Goodnight. WAY over booked. Cutting makes a rating hard to do, so, *.

- 1998 is the every man for himself one. Participants: DDP/Piper/Warrior/Bret/Stevie Ray/Hogan/Sting/Luger/Nash Lots of fighting and pointless War Games stuff until Hogan comes out, and lay's everyone out. Then the ring fills with smoke, and it's Warrior. The nWo beats on him, and he's gone, and runs down the isle (How did they do that?) Hogan runs away, and locks the door. Warrior is pissed, and breaks out to chase him, while DDP pins Stevie to a lot of boo's. This was a nothing match. But got DDP over as a top contender. - *** 1/2. (Why would anyone ever, EVER highlight War Games ’98?)

- Gene say's bye bye.

- Bottom Line: TERRIBLE! Flair/Arn is okay, the rest is CRAP! Crap I say! Stay AWAY from this tape!

NOT Recommended by ANY means.
