NWA (ECW) Eastern Championship Wrestling (September 21, 1993)

Original Airdate: September 21, 1993

Your Host is Joey Styles from the control center

ECW Television Title Match: Jimmy Snuka v Metal Maniac: From Philadelphia Pennsylvania on August 8 1993. The show is immediately better with Styles doing commentary. Joey’s not my favorite, and a lot of his work is kind of cringe worthy in 2022 eyes, but he’s still lightyears ahead of Jay Sulli. Snuka wins a big criss cross with a knife-edge chop, but Maniac rolls through on a bodypress for two, so Jimmy just hooks him in a small package at 2:30. ¼*

At a recent ECW show, Woman made her debut. Which consisted of her walking out, and standing there. Needed more Tony Schiavone screaming about how it’s the most important moment in the history of the sport

Tigra growls

Jay Sulli hypes up the Fall Fashion Swimwear Showdown at Bloodfeast. I’m a little confused about the title of the show, as they’re hyping it as ‘Bloodfeast,’ but I’ve seen it as ‘Bloodfest’ almost everywhere else. I’ll go with ‘feast’ since that’s what’s on screen at this point, but this promotion is really all over the place with stuff like that, so CARD SUBJECT TO CHANGE and all that

Joey writes Sulli off by noting that he’s training for the Swimwear Showdown, and that’s why Styles is ‘temporarily’ taking over for him. Yeah, get that in writing, Jay

We take a look back at the beatdown on Salvatore Bellomo at UltraClash, with a giant ‘censored’ symbol covering three-quarters of the screen to put it over as much more vicious than it was. See also: Beefcake/Bass. Joey then calls Sal’s doctor to get an update on Bellomo’s condition, and apparently it’s very serious. He’s lost three teeth! No one could possibly survive that!

Sulli catches up with JT Smith, now on crutches following the Scaffold match at UltraClash. Why does Joey refuse to use the title of the show, and just keeps calling it ‘last Saturday at the ECW Arena,’ like he’s Jack Tunney at Survivor Series ‘91, or something

Matty in the House (which is… his name?) is with Public Enemy, and they’re on the hunt for the NWA World Tag Team title. I get that ECW was technically a branch of the NWA at this point, but those belts haven’t been defended in the promotion, so it comes off as odd that they’re chasing them

Public Enemy v Jason Knight and Ian Rotten: From UltraClash. ECW debuts for all four guys. The Enemy attack before the bell, dumping Knight to the outside, and giving Rotten a spike piledriver in the ring. They’re dressed like Men on a Mission here, and they have the same taunt, to boot. Rocco Rock does a dive on the outside on Ian, and a 2nd rope moonsault on Jason connects. They dump Jason to the outside for some abuse, as Ian returns to the ring, but Rock beats him up in the corner. Johnny Grunge gives Rotten an inverted DDT, and Rock finishes him with a flying somersault senton splash at 4:39. This was just spots, with no storytelling to speak of. ½*

Out in the parking lot, the Enemy are about to pull a Walter Sobchak on Matty’s Corvette

Paul E. Dangerously hypes up Bloodfeast. Apparently someone called ‘Sabu’ is going to be at the show

Out in the parking lot, get more promo time, since apparently they’re the new Eddie Gilbert’s of this promotion

Tigra growls

BUExperience: With Paul Heyman now in the charge, you can feel the direction of the promotion shifting immediately. I wouldn’t call this ‘good’ yet, but it is getting more interesting already.
