WWF Sunday Night Heat (October 25, 1998)

Original Airdate: October 25, 1998 (taped October 20)

From Madison, Wisconsin; Your Hosts are Jim Cornette and Michael Cole

WWF Light Heavyweight Title Match: Christian v Brian Christopher: Brian with a bodyslam right away, but a criss cross allows Christian an inverted DDT. Christian unloads in the corner, so Brian uses a turnbuckle smash, but a 2nd rope bodypress misses. That allows Christian a spinheel kick for two, but a clothesline misses, and Brian delivers a Russian facebuster. Brian with a floatover suplex for two, but the champ blocks a bulldog, and brings Brian off the top with a rana. Christian with a two-alarm vertical suplex into a falcon arrow, but a flying splash misses. That allows Brian to go up with a flying legdrop, but Christian dodges, and uses a bow-and-arrow facebuster at 3:16. Short, but good for what it was. * ½

Kevin Kelly is backstage with the Oddities, who are ready for the Insane Clown Posse to face Kaientai tomorrow on RAW

Jeff Jarrett v Golga: Cornette turns into Jerry Lawler at the sight of Debra McMichael, and it’s very odd. Jeff tries a headlock at the bell, but Golga easily escapes, mocking Jarrett. Jeff responds with right hands, and he tries a sunset flip, but Golga blocks with a sitdown splash. He adds an elbowdrop and a legdrop, so Jeff bails to the apron, and snaps Golga’s throat across the top from there. Jeff with a flying bodypress for two, but a standard bodypress gets caught in a slam. Golga misses a charge, sending him tumbling over the top, and Jarrett nails him with a baseball slide. Jeff follows to whip Golga into the post, and Jarrett rolls him in for a flying clothesline. Jeff with a few turnbuckle smashes, but Golga no-sells, and delivers a big boot. Golga with a front-powerslam, but Debra uses the Cartman doll to distract him, and Jeff capitalizes with a Russian facebuster at 3:26. This was better than I expected it to be. *

Earlier today, the Headbangers showed off their toy tag team title. Still a step above when they were NWA Tag Team champs earlier in the year

The Headbangers v Skull and 8-Ball: Mosh starts with Skull, and a criss cross sees Skull block a bodypress with a slam. Skull misses an elbowdrop, allowing Mosh a kneedrop, and  a corner whip is followed in. Tag to Thrasher for a combo, but a charge in the corner gets blocked, and 8-Ball tags in. DOA with stereo big boots for two, and I love how Cole doesn’t even bother trying to tell them apart, just calling both guys ‘DOA.’ Thrasher catches 8-Ball with a DDT for two, and he adds a dropkick, then a powerslam for two. Tag to Mosh for a combo, and Roseanne Barr the door after Skull saves. Everyone brawls, and in the confusion Mosh schoolboys 8-Ball at 3:22. ½*

Vince McMahon calls in, but refuses to shed any light on the mysterious letter Steve Austin stuffed in his pocket on RAW

Scorpio makes his way out for a match, but Blue Blazer attacks him before he can make it to the ring, and chokes him out with a guillotine

Backstage, Kelly catches up with Ken Shamrock and D-lo Brown, who are… a team now?

Backstage, Kelly catches up with X-Pac and Mankind, who are… also a team now…?

Ken Shamrock and D-lo Brown v X-Pac and Mankind: Everyone brawls around the ring right away, and the dust settles on Shamrock and X-Pac. X-Pac manages to catch him with a spinheel kick, but a cross corner whip gets reversed. Ken tries charging in, but X-Pac blocks. X-Pac charges, but Ken clotheslines him, and passes to D-lo. X-Pac nails him with a spinkick right away, and he passes to Mankind to pound Brown in the corner. Mankind with a clothesline, as the announcers reveal Rock, Undertaker, and Big Boss Man as the first three entrants for the title tournament at Survivor Series. X-Pac tags in and works a headlock, but Brown forces a criss cross, and catches him with a sitout spinebuster for two. That allows the heels to work on X-Pac, but Mankind gets the hot tag, and tees off on Ken. Brown comes in, but Mankind fights him off as well, and even catches X-Pac with an accidental shot as Roseanne Barrs the door. Mankind uses a double-arm DDT on Ken to set up the mandible claw, but Shamrock manages to side suplex him for the pin at 6:19 - despite still being in the hold the whole time. ¾*

BUExperience: Good stuff this week.
