WWF Prime Time Wrestling (April 13, 1987)

Original Airdate: April 13, 1987

Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan from the studio

WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Hart Foundation v The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers: From Boston Massachusetts on March 7. Jim Neidhart starts with Jacques Rougeau, and they do a bunch of posturing, before Bret Hart decides to tag in. Bret puts Jacques down with a cheap shot during a test-of-strength, but Jacques fights him off when Hart puts the boots to him. Bret bails to regroup, and both guys tag on the way back in. The challengers double up on and outsmart Neidhart, but a dropkick from Raymond Rougeau inadvertently allows a tag back to Bret. Hart with a bodyslam, but an elbowdrop misses, and Ray uses an armdrag into an armbar. Bret tries a rollup, but Ray blocks, and throws a savate kick, before tagging Jacques for a seated senton splash on the leg. The challengers go to work on the Hitman’s leg, but Bret goes to the eyes on Ray, and tags. The Foundation with a double team to put Ray in trouble, and the tag champs go to work. Ray is in trouble, but manages to get a knee up to block a charging Hitman in the corner, and even though the Foundation try doing a false tag distraction, Jacques gets a legal tag anyway! Jacques runs wild on Bret, so Anvil comes in, and here comes Raymond - Roseanne Barr the door! The Foundation collide, and the Brothers isolate Bret. That allows them to set up their finish, but Neidhart saves. Jacques stays on Bret with a small package, but Danny Davis turns it over, and Bret gets the pin at 15:09. This was fine. *

Craig DeGeorge is in the studio with Update, and the news this week is that Demolition is now with Mr. Fuji. He also feels like kind of an odd fit, but so much better than Johnny Valiant

The Ken Patera Story, Part 2. All roads still lead to ass rape, sadly

Frank Tunney Sr Memorial Tournament Final Match: Demolition v The Killer Bees: From Toronto Ontario Canada on March 15. Ax and B. Brian Blair start, and Blair manages to pound him with fists. Tag to Smash, and a criss cross is won by Blair with a drop-toehold. Tag to Jim Brunzell, and the Bees wishbone Smash, and then Blair tags back in to slap on a figure four. Ax saves, and that allows him to tag in legally as well. Ax turnbuckle smashes Blair, and he hooks a front-facelock, before passing back to Smash. Smash drops Blair across the top rope, and then dumps him in the heel corner for some double teaming. Demolition cut the ring in half, but the Bees make the mask switch when Blair is down on the outside, and the fresh Brunzell hits Ax with a dropkick for two. That draws Smash in, and rightly so, the cheaters. Smash tries to get the referee to check, but while he’s busy arguing, Blair comes off the top with a flying sunset flip on Ax at 6:09. ¼*

Fuji Chan! These are cute and everything, but enough with them already

Koko B. Ware v Danny Davis: From London Ontario Canada on March 16. Davis stalls at the bell, and they posture in the early going, with Danny getting minor wins, and celebrating them like major ones. Koko dumps him over the top, but Davis comes in hot, and pounds Ware into the corner. Davis unloads, and then whips him into the ropes to tag with a backelbow. Koko recovers, and slugs back, so Davis quickly bails, and regroups with Jimmy Hart on the outside. Back in, Koko wins a criss cross with a hiptoss, and he adds a dropkick to send Danny back to the outside. Davis manages to suplex him down for two, and he works a chinlock to wear Koko. Davis hammers on him, but Koko escapes a front-facelock. Koko with a cross corner whip, but a corner splash misses, and Danny puts the boots to him. Davis works another chinlock, and he uses a catapult under the bottom rope to choke Koko good. To the outside for more abuse, but he misses a clothesline on the way back in, and Koko hits a bodypress for two. Davis quickly cuts him off, and tries a sleeper to finish, and Koko fades. Ware fights to a vertical base, and manages to reverse the hold, but Davis drops into the corner, and covers for two. Davis with a shoulderblock, but they end up knocking heads, and both guys go down. Koko is up with a corner whip, but the charge in goes badly. That allows Davis to try for a slam, but Koko hooks an inside cradle for two. Both guys slug it out, and Koko gets the better of it, taking him down for mounted punches. Koko goes on the comeback trail, but time expires at 17:41. This was okay, just way too long. *

Judy Martin v Desiree Petersen: From Boston on June 22 1985, and we’re joined in progress, with Desiree in control. Desiree with a backelbow, and a corner whip works, but the charge in does not. That allows Judy an airplane spin into a snake eyes, and a powerbomb follows (called as an ‘inverted backbreaker’ by Gorilla), but Martin pulls her up at two. It’s a fucking powerbomb in 1985, Desiree is going to be out until 1986. Judy dumps her onto Gene Okerlund’s lap at the commentary table, and she follows to toss Desiree into the front row for good measure. Desiree beats the count, so Martin matslams her, and kicks her in the babymaker, as Monsoon wonders if some of the welts on Petersen’s body came from Okerlund. Martin misses a legdrop, allowing Desiree to throw a dropkick, but Judy gets fired up, and throws her onto the announcers again. Desiree is bumping like a blonde Mick Foley here. Gorilla rolls her back in (with Gene possibly copping a feel along the way), and Judy goes in for the kill, but Desiree manages a bodypress at 7:49 shown of 9:13. I got a kick out of Monsoon and Okerlund’s Draper and Sterling routine here. ½*

WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Randy Savage v Junkyard Dog: From Houston Texas on November 26 1986. Savage stalls, and tries a wristlock once engaging, but Dog reverses. Gorilla tries to get a word with Miss Elizabeth on the outside, causing Savage to lose his mind, and going after him on the outside. That allows Dog to sneak up, and a series of headbutts leave Macho down on the floor. Savage blames Gorilla for it, and goes after him again, before going back inside. He pops JYD with an elbowsmash, and a ropechoke gets the champion two. Dog fires back with more headbutts for two, but he gets nailed when trying a backdrop, and Macho delivers a kneedrop for two. Dog wins a slugfest, and more headbutts put Savage back on the outside. Dog follows, so Savage hides behind Liz, as Gorilla white knights for her. So Dog chases Macho around, but Randy sneaks in, and gets the countout win at 7:41. This was basically just posturing. DUD

BUExperience: I didn’t really dig this one, but it wasn’t terrible either. Just kind of ‘there.’
