WWF Prime Time Wrestling (October 1, 1987)

Original Airdate: October 1, 1987

Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan from the studio

George Steele v Sika: George Steele v Sika: From New York City on September 21. Steele charges in, but gets clobbered, and Sika unloads. Mr. Fuji gets some cheap shots in for good measure, but Steele fights him off, and starts throwing chairs in. Sika grabs it as George is climbing in, however, and he smacks Steele for the DQ at 2:58. Well, at least it was quick. DUD

Bob Orton v Scott Casey: From Toronto Ontario Canada on September 20. Casey was before my time, but going back and watching all of these old shows, I’m shocked at how much he’s on them, and getting ‘pushed’ as JTTS. He’s just so uninteresting. This one drags on and on as the crowd sits on their hands, before Orton hits the superplex at 14:31. ¼*

Craig DeGeorge is in the studio with Update, giving us a look at Piledriver

From Superstars, DeGeorge brings WWF Intercontinental Champion Honky Tonk Man out for a podium interview, so that Honky can give us his ten official reasons for why he’s a better champion than Randy Savage was. He starts running through them, so Macho comes out to respond, and Randy suggests that they go to the ring and find out. Right now. Macho cuts over to the ring and is ready to go, but, sadly, Honky isn’t ‘dressed for it,’ and leaves. Savage is a full on babyface now, and it’s great

From Superstars, we see the Islanders accost Tito Santana as he’s doing guest Spanish language commentary, and beat him up

The New Dream Team v The Young Stallions: From Toronto on September 20. Dino Bravo starts with Paul Roma, and they posture. Dino manages to hustle him into the heel corner, but a double team backfires, and Roma grabs a standing side-headlock. A criss cross allows Paul a bodypress for two, so he passes to Greg Valentine. Roma outmoves him, and passes to Jim Powers to criss cross with the Hammer. Powers gets an atomic drop, and he passes back to Roma. The babyfaces take turns pinballing Valentine, but Jim gets into trouble, and worked over. Roma gets the hot tag, and Roseanne Barr the door! Paul gets a rollup on Valentine, but Bravo hits him with an elbow to break, and Greg covers at 12:31. Solid work here. * ¼

Sensational Sherri v Velvet McIntyre: From the September 27 episode of Wrestling Challenge (taped September 16) in Rockford Illinois. The WWF Women's title is not on the line here. Sherri wastes no time getting it going here, but McIntyre blocks a monkeyflip, and throws a kick. A high knee follows for two, and McIntyre goes to a dragon sleeper. Sherri quickly snapmares out of it, and delivers a facebuster. Sherri works her over, but McIntyre fires back with a pair of shoulderblocks, and a headscissors takedown. A standing dropkick gets Velvet two, so she goes to a front-facelock, then into a takedown for two. McIntyre with a bodyslam to set up a giant swing, and a splash gets one when Sherri is in the ropes. McIntyre keeps coming with a backdrop, and a rollup gets her one - before getting reversed by Sherri for three at 3:34. Afterwards, McIntyre beats her up. ½*

Harley Race v Hillbilly Jim: From New York on September 21. Race gets control early, and hammers on Hillbilly. A vertical suplex gets reversed, however, and Hillbilly gets two out of it. Elbowdrop, but Race dodges, and delivers a kneedrop. Hillbilly gets dumped, and Race follows to send him into the post, but it gets reversed. Inside, Jim slugs at him, but Race goes to the eyes, and dumps him again. Harley follows with a piledriver on the floor, and he adds a headbutt drop out there. Again, but Hillbilly dodges, and Race hits the concrete. Inside, Jim gets a sleeper locked, so Race drops into the turnbuckles to shake it off. Race with a bodyslam for two,and an elbowdrop gets him two. A kneedrop gets two, but a charge in the corner hits a boot. That allows Hillbilly to try a 2nd rope splash, but now Race dodges, and Harley goes up with a flying headbutt drop at 10:16. *

Ted DiBiase v Jacques Rougeau: From Rockford on September 16. Posturing to start, with Rougeau trying to get a hold on, but Ted using cheap tactics to keep him off. Rougeau grabs a wristlock, but Ted escapes, and hides on the floor to stall. Rougeau chases him back in, and a criss cross ends in Rougeau hitting a dropkick - knocking Ted back to the outside. Another criss cross ends in Rougeau bodypressing for two, but a 2nd rope version misses, and DiBiase capitalizes with a series of turnbuckle smashes. Ted adds some elbowsmashes, and a knee sends Rougeau crashing to the canvas. Ted with a blatant choke, and Gorilla is all over this clown of a referee about it. Virgil with a cheap shot to really get Monsoon in a snit, and Ted delivers a vertical suplex for two. Ted with a pair of elbowdrops, but a third misses, and Jacques hooks a backslide for two. Ted puts the boots to him to cut off a comeback, and a bodyslam leads to a 2nd rope axehandle, but Rougeau punches him in the stomach to block. That allows Rougeau to properly get on the comeback trail, and a jumping backelbow is worth two. Rougeau with a pair of kneedrops for two, so Virgil hops on the apron with a distraction, and Ted schoolboys at 8:31. Solid action here. **

BUExperience: A good episode this week, with some actual interesting pairings, instead of the usual string of fifteen minute jobber matches.
