Original Airdate: September 24, 1987
Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan from the studio
Don Muraco v Ron Bass: From Rockford Illinois on September 16. Posturing to start, and Don with a pair of bodyslams to send Bass to the outside for a breather. Muraco looks like he’s on all the steroids here. Back in, Muraco with a corner whip, and a backbreaker follows for two, so Bass bails again. Inside, Don tries a swinging neckbreaker, but Bass holds the ropes to block. That allows Ron to get control, and he dumps Muraco to the outside. Bass follows for a few smashes into the post, and he tries to keep Don from climbing back into the ring. Muraco manages to fight into hitting a clothesline, and he delivers an elbowdrop, then a kneedrop. A punch knocks Bass out of the ring, but Muraco is on his tail. The referee gets bumped as they go back inside, and it’s ruled a double disqualification at 9:23. This was dull. ¼*
Sivi Afi v Steve Lombardi: From Boston Massachusetts on September 12. Fun. Afi throws a bodypress, but Steve rolls through for the pin at 9:15. DUD
Gene Okerlund catches up with Strike Force, who are both happy to not be lonely
Craig DeGeorge is in the studio for Update, giving us a look at the endless saga of Bam Bam Bigelow’s managerial situation
DeGeorge is in the control center with Special Report, giving us a look at the dispute between Honky Tonk Man and Randy Savage over who is the ‘greatest Intercontinental champion of all time.’ Well, possession is 9/10ths of the law
The Shadows v SD Jones and Scott Casey: From Boston on September 12. How do you know that you’re a jobber? You lose to SD Jones and/or Scott Casey. The Shadows are jobbers at 12:08. Yes, this actually got twelve minutes. DUD
Eight-Man Tag Team Match: King Kong Bundy, Harley Race, Hercules, and Rick Rude v SD Jones, Brady Boone, Dusty Wolfe, and Rudy Ryder: From the September 20 episode of Wrestling Challenge in San Francisco California (taped August 25). Johnny Valiant is immediately a riot on commentary here, disparaging various women in the crowd as not up to Rude’s standards, and then calling them lesbians. Andre the Giant split screens in here, basically just to remind us that he exists. Bundy pins Ryder at 3:34. See, now that’s how you treat SD Jones. Afterwards, Ken Patera is out, and fumes at the Heenan Family for breaking his arm. DUD
DeGeorge brings Ted DiBiase out for a podium interview, and he pulls a kid out of the crowd to do pushups for cash. DiBiase is beyond awesome in this role
Lanny Poffo v Pete Doherty: From Boston on September 12, as this nightmare house show continues. Pete actually picks up a win here, with a backbreaker at 9:36. DUD
Harley Race v George Steele: From Rockford Illinois on September 16. Race gets control, but misses a 2nd rope headbutt drop, as Mike tries stealing Gorilla’s line about Excedrin headaches, but totally messes it up. Steele with a corner whip to send Harley flipping to the outside, and George forces him back inside. Steele with some biting, but Race dumps him over the top to shake it off. Steele pulls Race out after him, but gets reversed into the timekeeper’s table. George responds by coming in wielding a chair, but Hercules runs in to attack Steele for the DQ at 4:02. Race was selling like crazy to keep this engaging, but it was a junk match. ¼*
BUExperience: Another terrible episode of this stupid show. Does it ever get good?
