NWA (JCP) World Championship Wrestling (February 8, 1986)

Original Airdate: February 8, 1986 (taped February 2)

From Atlanta, Georgia; Your Host is Tony Schiavone

Jimmy Valiant v David Dellinger: Oh great, Jimmy Valiant. What a way to start. He does his usual bullshit here, before finishing with an elbowdrop at 2:49. Afterwards, Valiant swings by the desk to talk about his plans for the rest of the weekend. DUD

Barbarian and Paul Jones join us to promise to hurt various people

The Road Warriors v Brodie Chase and Kent Glover: The Warriors storm the ring, and make short work of the jobbers at 2:55. And that would actually be something of an extended squash for them compared to how they usually bulldoze these geeks. Afterwards, they swing by the desk to do what they always do: threaten the Russians. DUD

Ron Garvin v Golden Terror: “You know, you look at Ron Garvin, and you think…” and then Tony just kind of trails off. Yeah, that’s about how much thought I generally give Ron Garvin. Ron with the punch at 4:22. Afterwards, Garvin stops by the desk to promise he’ll get NWA World Champion Ric Flair next time they meet. DUD

Ron Bass v Larry Clarke: Bass with some really dull squashing this week, ahead of finishing with the claw at 4:14. Afterwards, Ron lets Paul Jones know where he can stick his $10,000. DUD

Baby Doll swings by to show off her drunk eyes

Barbarian v Tony Zane: Barbarian with the flying headbutt drop at 4:39. Le crap. “Like him or not, you’ve got to be impressed.” No, no I do not. DUD

Jim Cornette brings new NWA World Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express out to celebrate beating the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. Those belts look really odd on them

The Midnight Express v Mike Somaini and Don Turner: The NWA World Tag Team title is not on the line. Cornette, of course, is in all his glory gloating on commentary here. The Express put it away at 4:04. The Express had some cool moves going for them, but these squashes are just too long, dulling their impression. ¼*

Baron von Raschke and the Koloffs stop by to growl

Ivan Koloff v Randy Mulkey: The Russians have been threatening to hit Baby Doll with the Sickle, and boy, there sure is a lot of casual violence towards women on this show. Koloff with the Sickle at 4:28. And, hey, with Mulkey’s girlish figure, it’s almost kind of a preview. DUD

Tully Blanchard and JJ Dillon join us to talk smack about Jimmy Valiant. Ugh, aim higher Tully

Paul Jones is out to politely decline Ron Bass’ offer to shove $10,000 up his ass. That draws Bass out to offer again, in person this time, and after some debate, Paul agrees to it for next week

Baron von Raschke v George South: Jones is on commentary here, and Tony is worried about his asshole. As well he should be. $10,000 is a lot of shoving. Hopefully it’ll be in big bills, at least. Baron with the clawhold at 4:51. DUD

Tully and JJ are back to note that Dusty Rhodes is an idiot

NWA Television Title Match: Arn Anderson v Bill Mulkey: Arn talks down to him, but Bill doesn’t back down… which leads to him getting wrecked. Arn retains at 5:06. Afterwards, Anderson stops by the desk to also remind us that Dusty Rhodes is, in fact, an idiot. ¼*

Nikita Koloff v Bill Tabb: The Sickle finishes a dull squash at 2:22. Well, at least it was relatively short. DUD

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express come out to cry about losing the tag title

The Rock 'n' Roll Express v Paul Garner and Lee Peek: Tony notes that Cornette was successful in winning the title, but failed to ‘keep this team down.’ I dunno, they were nearly in tears in the previous segment. Stereo dropkicks finish at 1:48. Afterwards, the Midnights come back out to mock them, but nothing comes of it. DUD

BUExperience: Yawn.
