ECW Eastern Championship Wrestling (May 18, 1993)

Original Airdate: May 18, 1993 (taped April 3)

From Radnor, Pennsylvania; Your Hosts are Jay Sulli and Stevie Wonderful

Tod Gordon and Paul E. Dangerously open the show with their usual catfight, which draws out Don Muraco to back Paul up, and Gordon runs off. Muraco looks like an old school mafia heavy here

We get a replay of the entire tag title switch from last week, where Larry Winters and Tony Stetson unseated the Super Destroyers. No idea why they didn't just show clips, especially since it was a shitty ¼* match

Eddie Gilbert and Jimmy Snuka v JT Smith and Max Thrasher: Eddie and Max start, and Max gets a wristlock on him quickly. Over to Smith for a 2nd rope axehandle, and Dangerously is doing a better job of selling it that Gilbert. Smith and Thrasher work Gilbert over with quick tags, but Smith gets into trouble in the heel corner, and Gilbert suplexes him for two. Gilbert with a bodyslam to set up a 2nd rope fistdrop, but JT dodges. He tries a double team, but ends up hitting Max in the process, and Thrasher decides to walk out. That allows Gilbert to deliver a backbreaker, and Jimmy comes in with the Superfly Splash at 3:00. ½*

Terry Funk is on his ranch, preparing for the Texas Chain match against Eddie Gilbert at Super Summer Sizzler

The Suicide Blonds are back after a tour of England, where they 'sold Wembley out' multiple nights in a row, before the Queen got on her knees for them. I'm not seeing anything on cagematch

ECW Tag Team Title Match: Larry Winters and Tony Stetson v The Suicide Blonds: Winters is such a loser that he almost drops the title belt while posing with it. Stetson and Christopher Candido start, and Tony gets the first takedown via hiptoss. That draws Jonathan Hotbody in, but Tony fights him off by sending Candido into him with an atomic drop, and that fucking loser Winters tags in. And if you thought he looked like a dork trying to pose with a title belt, just wait 'til you see him try and work the crowd. The champs dominate Candido, as Salvatore Bellomo wanders out. Hotbody gets the tag, but gets wrecked by Winters, as the announcers pretend they don't know who Bellomo is. Really? He's been on the show, in that exact same outfit, multiple times. The Blonds manage to get control on Winters, and fucking Larry is so bad in the ring that he messes up taking a simple stereo backelbow. Stereo dropkick doesn't go much better, though to be fair, the Blonds are pretty terrible too. Hotbody throws a spinheel kick that Larry decides to sell by falling in the opposite direction of science, but a rocket launcher misses, and Stetson gets the tag - Roseanne Barr the door. Winters and Stetson manage stereo sunset flips on their challengers to retain at 5:14. The pace was good, but the quality for the work was crazy rough. Afterwards, the Blonds complain about pulling of the tights, but no one acknowledges their complaints, so they take out their frustrations by beating the champs down. ½*

Glen Osbourne v Don Muraco: Osbourne manages a takedown for an armbar, but Muraco uses the hair for a quick escape, as we get a screen crawl advertising Super Summer Sizzler. Only match announced so far is the Texas Chain match. Muraco does some stalling, as Jimmy Snuka hangs out with Dangerously at ringside, shooting 'I kill you' looks at the camera. I wouldn't test him. Don hits a DDT once he's done with his extended stall, and that's enough to turn the tide. Muraco works him over in dull fashion, until Glen starts randomly making a comeback, and an elbowdrop gets him two. Clothesline, but Don counters with a hotshot, and a tombstone finishes at 4:34. This was shit, with Muraco looking washed up, and Osbourne hardly the guy to coax something decent out of him. DUD

ECW Title Match: Sandman v Rockin' Rebel: Both Peaches and Tigra are barred from ringside for this one. What is this, like, Rebel's hundredth shot at the title on this show over the last two months? Rebel stalls on the outside to start, eventually suckering Sandman into a chase, and feeding the champion the post. Inside, Rebel dropkicks him, but a cross corner whip gets reversed, and Sandman tags him with a backelbow on the rebound. Sandman with mounted punches, so Rebel bails. Sandman gets on his back to offer Rebel a free shot, which Rebel happily takes, and which Sandman is too stupid to even dodge. But then he just corner whips him again, and hits another backelbow for two. Sandman is really fucking excited about that one, however, allowing Rebel to block a backdrop, and hit a chincrusher. Rebel with a clothesline to set up a legdrop for two, and he uses chops in the corner, but a whip into the ropes gets reversed, and Sandman catches him with a dropkick. Sandman adds a vertical suplex for two, and both guys stagger up for a slugfest, resulting in a double knockout. Both guys stagger up again, but both throw clotheslines for a second double knockout spot. Sandman recovers first this time, so Tigra shows up, tailed by Peaches. So much for the ban, there were no officials even trying to stop them! So the ladies fight into the ring, and the match is ruled a no-contest at 6:45. Great, maybe Rebel will get another title shot next week. Just what we need. This wasn't what you might call 'good,' but it was practically high art compared to Larry Winters. ¾*

Salvatore Bellomo shows up with a pizza, and apparently he's going to join the Super Destroyers

BUExperience: The wrestling was all shit, and the direction of the promotion seems to constantly change, but the show was pretty watchable for the most part.
