WWF Superstars (May 29, 1993)

Original Airdate: May 29, 1993 (taped May 4)

From Worcester, Massachusetts; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon, Randy Savage, and Jerry Lawler

Tatanka v Richie Rich: “Here comes a man who knows what America is really all about,” shouts Vince. Yeah, I’ll bet. Meanwhile, Lawler notes that there’s ‘just two weeks left in the boring WWF Title reign of Hulk Hogan.’ That felt more than a little shootish. Though he ain’t wrong. Tatanka with some very nicely executed bodyslams here, as Lawler offends Vince’s sensibilities by calling Tatanka an ‘Indian.’ Doesn’t Vince call him that all the time? Tatanka with the Samoan drop at 2:38. This felt endless. ¼*

Gorilla Monsoon is in the control center to talk about Shawn Michaels’ terrible, horrible, no good, very bad couple of weeks

Doink the Clown v Kevin Armstrong: Savage notes that Doink doesn’t even look upset at losing his King of the Ring qualifier to Mr. Perfect on RAW. Well, maybe that’s because it hadn’t even happened yet when this was taped, you macho moron. Doink with a stump puller at 1:31. DUD

King of the Ring ad

Boni Blackstone brings Sensational Sherri out to talk about her feud with Luna Vachon, ahead of this Monday when Sherri backs WWF Intercontinental Champion Marty Jannetty against Luna’s man, Bam Bam Bigelow. I’m not quite sure where Sherri is going with this promo, but I’m pretty sure she wants to fuck Luna

Yokozuna v Tony Roy: Vince encourages us all to watch Yokozuna disrobe, so we can properly assess his ‘girth.’ Sherri trying to bring Luna to her knees and make her scream her name, Yokozuna’s girth… did the Attitude Era just begin? Yokozuna with the Banzai Drop at 1:40. DUD

Gene Okerlund is in the studio with Face to Face, and guest Mr. Perfect. He’s happy to have qualified for the tournament, and ready for Mr. Hughes in the quarterfinals. More talk of ‘girth’ here from Gene, since I guess that’s our word of the day. Jim Duggan is next up, and it’s really weird seeing a wrestler wear their wedding band while performing

1-2-3 Kid has heard Razor Ramon’s offer of $2,500 to get back in the ring, but Kid’s got a family to support, and it’s just not worth risking permanent injury for a few bucks. Kid played this perfectly

The Steiner Brothers v Mike Bell and Tony DeVito: The Steiner’s look moody tonight, God help these jobbers. Meanwhile, Lawler continues hitting the mark on his endless load of dad jokes. The Brothers with the elevated flying bulldog combo at 3:02. ¼*

Gene is in the studio with the King of the Ring Report

Mr. Perfect v Rich Myers: The announcers put over Perfect’s feud with Shawn Michaels, since Shawn’s plate just needed to get a little bit fuller, I guess. He’s got issues with Perfect, Crush, Jannetty - clearly they had big plans for Shawn, even then. Perfectplex finishes at 2:10. DUD

Gene hosts another Face to Face with WWF Tag Team Champions Money Inc. At least they’re finally cutting promos aimed at the Steiner Brothers, instead of various teams who aren’t even in the promotion any longer. Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji are next up, and they’re pretty sure the lean old walrus won’t be able to bodyslam the mighty Yokozuna

Razor Ramon heard that Kid turned his offer down, so the furious Bad Guy ups the offer to $5,000

BUExperience: Man, I miss the King of the Ring qualifiers. They really pumped some life into these shows, and now it’s back to squash city again.
