WWF Superstars (August 6, 1994)

Original Airdate: August 6, 1994 (taped July 3)

From Ocean City, Maryland; Your Hosts are Stan Lane and Lord Alfred Hayes

Owen Hart v Mike Khoury: I believe this episode (which is the only one available on the Network) is an international version of the show, hence the odd announce team. Also, holy shit, this building is laughably small. And I know this episode is the last in the cycle for this arena, and I’ve noticed it before now, but it’s still worth mentioning. They were really getting small time during this period, it’s something of a wonder that they were still drawing pretty huge houses for the pay per views. Hart with the Sharpshooter at 2:50. DUD

Leslie Nielsen continues to hunt for Undertaker. And pizza

Shawn Michaels and WWF Intercontinental Champion Diesel host the Heartbreak Hotel, with guest Lex Luger. Shawn praises Lex for selling out to Ted DiBiase, but Luger denies it. He acknowledges that DiBiase did make him a lucrative offer, but he claims that he didn’t take it. Michaels wonders how true that is, considering he’s seen Lex riding around in a new Mercedes, and wearing a Rolex. Well, he’s a successful professional athlete, that’s hardly unique behavior

Kwang v Jim Powers: Lane notes that he’s known Lex Luger for twelve years, and he’s never heard him tell a lie in that time, so he believes Luger. I won’t even touch that one. I mean, I’m pretty sure even the pope has snuck in a lie or two in a twelve year span, but we’re supposed to believe that Lex Luger (who, remember, was already a heel in WWF canon) is beyond reproach? Kwang with a spinkick at 1:20. DUD

Live Event News is a hype video for the Intercontinental title match between Diesel and Razor Ramon at SummerSlam

Jeff Jarrett v 1-2-3 Kid: Hayes is offended by Jarrett, since he prefers Mozart. So, anyone not as good as Mozart is shit in his eyes? Well, at least his CD collection was probably pretty easy to carry around between towns. Kid sneaks in from the crowd for an attack, and hits a bodypress right away. A leg-feed kick sends Jeff to the outside, and Kid is on him with a plancha. Kid delivers a backdrop on the floor, but a dive from the apron ends in Jarrett delivering a hotshot on the guardrail. Inside, Jeff tries a cross corner whip, but Kid reverses, and follows in with a corner dropkick for two. Kid tries a piledriver, but Jarrett backdrops him to block, so Kid pulls out a cradle for two. Kid lands a clothesline for two, but another backdrop gets blocked with a kneelift. Jeff dives with a 2nd rope fistdrop, but Kid dodges. Jeff uses a bodyslam to set up an elbowdrop, but Kid dodges that as well, and hooks a small package for two. A criss cross ends in Jarrett hooking a sleeper, but Kid fights free. Kid gets a sleeper of his own on, but Jeff quickly escapes, so Kid uses an inverted atomic drop instead. Kid with a ten-punch, but Jeff drops him, and hooks a leveraged cradle at 4:53. This was a solid, energetic outing to wrap their series up. Afterwards, a second official runs out to reverse the decision, but it goes nowhere. Well, that was certainly pointless. ** ½

WWF ad. Just a general ad for the promotion. And not a good one (it’s just images of various wrestlers executing their signature moves on jobbers)

Duke Droese v Ray Hudson: We get a fan doing the guest ring announcing here. Hayes as a bargain basement Jerry Lawler is really terrible, and just doesn’t work at all. He’s even throwing around words like ‘peons’ and ‘peasants’ like he’s suddenly doing a royalty gimmick himself. Droese with a tilt-a-whirl slam at 1:33. I always liked that finisher. And then Hayes steals Lawler’s Royal Magistrator gimmick! I’m pretty sure that was just Jerry doing it on the regular version of this show, with Hayes recording commentary over it. DUD

Todd Pettengill is in the studio for the SummerSlam Report

Leslie Nielsen continues to hunt for Undertaker. But not pizza this time. Well, at least he achieved that. Good for him

Razor Ramon v Mike Haywood: Walter Payton has now officially been announced as Razor’s cornerman for SummerSlam, in a pretty random addition. Razor’s Edge finishes this one at 2:21. DUD

Live Event News chronicles Tatanka’s accusations of Lex Luger selling out to Ted DiBiase

Clips of Lex squashing a jobber on Monday Night RAW on June 27. Well, that’s random

BUExperience: Not much of note this week with this weird international edition of the show, though I did enjoy the Jarrett/Kid match.
