WWF Superstars (July 23, 1994)

Original Airdate: July 23, 1994 (taped July 3)

From Ocean City, Maryland; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler

Jeff Jarrett v 1-2-3 Kid: Kid is coming off of a classic match against Bret Hart here, and Jeff is coming off of… pretending to sing…? Kid dominates with holds early, with Jarrett complaining of hair pulling all the while. Jarrett escapes a headlock with a side suplex, and he puts the boots to Kid before corner whipping him. Jeff hammers on the back, but Kid fights him off, and takes it to the mat in a side-headlock. Jeff escapes, so Kid criss crosses, but gets caught with a DDT. Jeff goes to work, but gets dodged in the corner, and Kid hooks a rollup for two. Jarrett cuts him off, but misses a straddling ropechoke, and then misses a dropkick to furnish Kid with a comeback. Kid lands a spinkick for two, but a bodypress misses, and Kid ends up on the outside. Jeff dives after him, but Kid is ready with a kick to block, and they brawl to a double countout at 7:40. Solid match, disappointing ending. You knew Jarrett wasn’t going to do a second job after Kid already went over at King of the Ring, and it wouldn’t make sense to have the heel win here, so I get it from a booking perspective. Afterwards, Jarrett drops him with a series of piledrivers, and I’m surprised this didn’t lead to a blow off at SummerSlam. Especially since Kid didn’t even have a match on the card, and Jarrett’s match was just filler. * ¼

Live Event News is a recap of the epic Hart Brothers

Jim Neidhart v Rich Myers: The poor kids in the crowd pop big, thinking Bret Hart is coming out when they hear the music. That theme was much better than the one Bret switched to after WrestleMania X. And, yeah, I know I’ve mentioned that before. Neidhart with a camel clutch at 2:13. Was there really no better finisher they could come up with for him? DUD

Bob Backlund is working out, and ready for his WWF Title shot against Bret Hart next week

Tatanka v Austin Steele: We get a fan doing the ring announcing here, who may or may not be Bill Watts. Tatanka with the Samoan drop at 2:34. DUD

Meanwhile, the mafia watch RAW

Shawn Michaels and WWF Intercontinental Champion Diesel host the Heartbreak Hotel with guest Ted DiBiase, who introduces Lex Luger as the latest member of the Million Dollar Corporation. And Lex actually comes out when introduced, but Tatanka cuts him off before he can speak. Lex gets offended, and tells DiBiase the deal is off. Wait, so he was going to accept it?! One thing you have to give them, they were really giving the Corporation a solid push to get it started, though it became a total joke is pretty short order

Todd Pettengill is in the studio for the SummerSlam Report, and the announcement this week is Diesel defending the Intercontinental title against Razor Ramon. Also, Undertaker/Undertaker and the Hart Brothers cage match is officially a double main event. Phew

Bam Bam Bigelow v Tyrone Knox: Bigelow is looking pretty fired up this week (excuse me), and puts it away with a cobra bulldog at 2:13. ¼*

Live Event News chronicles the growth of the Corporation

BUExperience: Nothing big, but it had direction.
