Original Airdate: August 16, 1986 (taped August 8)
From Atlanta, Georgia; Your Hosts are Tony Schiavone and David Crockett
Jim Cornette is out, swearing revenge on Dusty Rhodes for putting his hands on Big Bubba Rogers
Bobby Jaggers and Dutch Mantel v Bill Mulkey and George South: The big news this week is that Ric Flair has regained the NWA World title from Dusty. Jaggers scores the pin here after a bearhug/flying clothesline combo at 3:37. That’s like a cool Doomsday Device/Hart Attack combo that somehow ends up coming off less devastating than either. DUD
The Russians are out, reacting to Magnum TA tying up the Best of Seven Series with Nikita Koloff
Jimmy Valiant is out, and he is so confident that he will shave Paul Jones’ head before 1986 is out that he will retire if he can’t get it done. Don’t tease us, Jimmy
The Road Warriors v Tom Pittman and Pablo Crenshaw: The Warriors blitz the jobbers, and Hawk finishes with a clothesline at 1:09. No team could steamroll dudes like the Road Warriors. DUD
We get clips of Dusty beating Flair to win the world title, but then get destroyed by a chair wielding Tully Blanchard
Tully is out to laugh it up about Dusty
Clips of Flair winning the title back in St. Louis
Flair is out to do some proper gloating and celebrating. Based on the suit choice this week, I’m guessing the celebration was fueled by cocaine
The Road Warriors are out, fuming about the Horsemen
Bill Dundee v Vernon Deaton: Some baseball player from the Houston Astros is shown in the crowd for this, and man, if you thought the ‘average’ JCP fan looked like a redneck. If Dick Murdoch is ‘Captain Redneck,’ this guy has got to be the general. Bill with a flying elbowdrop at 3:46. DUD
Recently, Bill Apter sat down with Dusty Rhodes, who is swearing revenge on Tully. Lot of that going on this week
Paul Jones is out to react to Valiant’s promise earlier, which he laughs off
Six-Man Tag Team Match: Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, and Ole Anderson v Sam Houston, Italian Stallion, and Todd Champion: Champion eats a combo from Arn and Tully at 6:57. Yes, seven minutes. ¼*
Dick Murdoch v Tony Zane: Murdoch wastes no time here, knocking this fool out with a brainbuster at a brisk 0:21. DUD
Arn Anderson is out, and he thinks Dusty should flush his feelings down a toilet. Gosh, he’s lucky Dusty didn’t go to HR after that kind of talk
The Midnight Express are out, and man, they need to replace those belts with the more modern Reggie Parks style ones already
Six-Man Tag Team Match: Nikita Koloff, Ivan Koloff, and Krusher Kruschev v Paul Garnet, Randy Barber, and Clement Fields: Nikita ends this one quickly with the Russian Sickle at 0:59. DUD
Clips of Magnum TA defeating Nikita Koloff in Asheville North Carolina to get a tie in their Best of Seven Series for the NWA United States title
Magnum and Baby Doll are out, and Magnum is ready to finish it
A look at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express hanging out with (see: kissing) the girls who won the contest to hang out with them. Literally none of this feels appropriate in 2024
The Rock 'n' Roll Express v Bill Tabb and Art Pritts: The Express with dropkicks at 1:50. DUD
The Horsemen are out to repeat the same shit they’ve already said, like, three times on this episode already
BUExperience: Sometimes this show is good, and I enjoy it. But it feels like things have really dulled since some of the hot episodes earlier in the summer. There’s stuff going on, but it just doesn’t feel super exciting, and there’s way too much repetition.
