Original Airdate: October 18, 1986 (taped October 12)
From Atlanta, Georgia; Your Hosts are Tony Schiavone and David Crockett
Magnum TA is out, still chasing the US title
Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson v Vernon Deaton and Keith Patterson: The Horsemen put this away in short order at 0:52. DUD
Tully Blanchard and JJ Dillon are out, complaining about Dusty Rhodes running wild on the entire promotion. He was taking entire stables of guys out like 1995 Hulk Hogan
Ron Garvin v Grim Reaper: The NWA Mid-Atlantic title is not on the line here. The announcers enthusiastically note how much Ron loves and appreciates the fans, because he throws his used gym towel to them before his matches. Gosh, I hope he never loves and/or appreciates me. Garvin with the knockout punch at 0:56. DUD
Wahoo McDaniel v Gary Royal: Wahoo with the ol’ knife-edge chop at 0:46, to continue the streak of quickie matches tonight. DUD
Paul Jones and his Army are out, and it’s hard to even look at the rest of the stable with Rick Rude standing there. He just looks like such a massive star compared to the rest of them. Wahoo comes over as they talk, and tries to choke Paul out, but Rude and Manny Fernandez take him out. They deliver a beat down, until Magnum, Ron Garvin, and Brad Armstrong make the save
NWA World Champion Ric Flair joins us, and he doesn’t care who his Starrcade opponent ends up being, because he doesn’t plan on losing
Ivan Koloff v Mike Somaini: Koloff with the cobra clutch at a quick 0:33. I am digging there super fast matches here. DUD
Jim Crockett is out to announce that both Greensboro North Carolina and Atlanta will host Starrcade, and that Jimmy Valiant versus Paul Jones in a Hair v Hair match is the first match signed. Which they announce with a video package of a (possibly) drunk Valiant playing the blues on a street corner, when Big Mama pulls up in a station wagon to get him back to the boogie
Six-Man Tag Team Match: Rick Rude, Shaska Whatley, and Baron von Raschke v Brad Armstrong, Dutch Mantel, and Bobby Jaggers: I still can’t believe that Mantel managed to make it through his whole career without any promoter ever making him shave his back. The babyfaces dominate Shaska early on, but a cheap shot allows the heels to take over on Bobby. They cut the ring in half on Jaggers, until a double knockout with Baron allows the hot tag to Brad. He runs wild, and the heels twice try to save Baron, but end up hitting him instead. That allows Brad a schoolboy at 3:25. Afterwards, Baron is furious, but Paul Jones gets in his face, so Baron takes him out with the claw. That earns him a triple team from Rude, Shaska, and Manny - until Wahoo makes the save. DUD
NWA World Tag Team Champions The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are out, and Ricky Morton is legit wearing a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt here, like he’s cleaning his garage on a Sunday afternoon. And we’re supposed to take these guys as serious opponents for the Horsemen? Have you seen their suits?!
The Midnight Express v Alan West and Eddie Roberts: Jim Cornette does commentary here, but barely has a chance to get going before the Express polish the jobbers off with a combo at 0:21. DUD
BUExperience: An abbreviated episode, which was a much easier watch.
