WWF Prime Time Wrestling (March 16, 1987)

Original Airdate: March 16, 1987

Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan from the studio

Moondog Spot v Jim Duggan: From Boston Massachusetts on March 7. They slug each other around early, with Spot dominating him. Duggan manages a bodyslam to set up a kneedrop for two, and the three-point stance puts this away at 7:11. Not exactly the most exciting way to introduce Duggan to their general audience. DUD

Gene Okerlund is in the control center for the WrestleMania III Report

The Killer Bees v Tiger Chung Lee and Iron Mike Sharpe: From the March 14 (taped February 16) episode of Superstars in New Haven Connecticut.  Jesse, rightly, mocks the Bees’ tights. Meanwhile, Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff split screen in, promising to make ‘honey’ out of the Bees at WrestleMania. Jim Brunzell puts Tiger away with a dropkick at 4:41. This felt endless, to the point where I had to double check to make sure this was actually only five minutes. DUD

Gene catches up with Honky Tonk Man, who is much, much, much more at home as a heel

Ron Bass v SD Jones: From Boston Massachusetts on March 7. Joined in progress with Bass in control. He works Jones over, as Heenan goes on and on about the victory celebrations set for Andre after WrestleMania. In a good way. Bass with a jumping backelbow at 7:07 shown of 10:59. Enough shown to call this a DUD

Don Muraco and Bob Orton v Dan Spivey and Jerry Allen: From Boston Massachusetts on March 7. Boy, with Mike Rotundo disappearing, Spivey’s fortunes collapsed in a hurry. He gets some shine here, but you know his team ain’t going over here. And, indeed, Orton superplexes Allen for the pin at 12:19. ¼*

Pedro Morales v Jimmy Jack Funk: From Boston Massachusetts on March 7. Gorilla claiming to be friends with Alice Cooper has to be the most ‘what’s up, fellow kids’ moments of his career. Morales sells for a while, before making his comeback, and finishing with a backbreaker at 7:19. ¼*

Gene catches up with Jake Roberts, who doesn’t want to hear any excuses for Honky Tonk Man hitting him with a guitar: Honky is dead

WWF Women's Tag Team Title Match: Leilani Kai and Judy Martin v Velvet McIntyre and Angie Minelli: From Columbus Ohio on March 11. Gosh, women’s wrestling has changed since 1987. The champs retain by pinfall here at 11:53. ¼*

Recently, Bobby led Gorilla through the woods to give him (and us) a look at Andre the Giant’s training program. Bobby providing Gorilla with a bunch of bananas as ‘lunch’ is hilarious. Unfortunately, they get lost like Paulie and Christopher, and never find Andre

BUExperience: One cool thing going on this week: Heenan unveiled the oversized WWF Title belt they had made for Andre, should he win at WrestleMania. And it’s massive.
