WWF Mania (September 25, 1993)

Original Airdate: September 25, 1993

Your Host is Todd Pettengill from the studio, with Todd dressed up like Randy Savage, and doing a pretty decent impression

The Smoking Gunns v Mike Bell and Tony DeVito: From Superstars on September 18 (taped August 17) in White Plains New York. The jobbers actually try to sneak attack here, which you can imagine does not go well for them. The Gunns with a combo at 2:03. DUD

Back in the studio, the real Macho Man arrives, so Todd goes to hide before he sees him in his stolen clothes

From Monday Night RAW, Bobby Heenan catches up to Johnny Polo and the Quebecers backstage to talk about facing the Steiner Brothers next week, but Polo informs us that they're not really deserving, so they'll defend the belts against someone else instead

Merchandise Catalog ad. Must be quite the catalog if it gets a TV ad

Bam Bam Bigelow v Laverne McGill: From RAW on September 20 (taped September 13) in New York City. Bam Bam catches him with a dropkick right away, but a second try misses, and McGill fires off two of his own. Bigelow actually Flair flips in the corner, but McGill's third try at a dropkick misses, as the injured Crush calls in to discuss his upcoming return with the announcers. Well, the announcers except for Randy Savage, who Crush promptly ignores and hangs up on. Meanwhile, Bigelow hits a hanging vertical suplex, and he chinlocks the jobber as Heenan rubs in the hang up heard 'round the world in Savage's face. McGill tries a sunset flip, but Bam Bam buttsplashes him, hits an awkward looking vertical suplex, and senton splashes him at 5:20. Really dull match, but the Crush stuff on commentary kept it from being a total waste. ¼*

Back in the studio, Macho wants to go and try to call Crush so they can work this out, but since Todd is still nowhere to be found, Randy sends some production assistants to find his tardy ass so he can go make his phone call

Mr. Perfect v Barry Horowitz: From the September 18 episode of Superstars. They’re already teasing the Doink babyface turn here, with Lawler trash talking him for his performance at SummerSlam, but the babyface announcers standing up for him in the same breath as they do Bret Hart. Perfect mocking Barry’s pat-on-the-back taunt gets a big laugh here, as Lawler predicts that Horowitz will get the win in ‘the upset of the year.’ Well, not this year. Perfectplex finishes at 2:18. Perfect got a good jobber this week. ½*

Back in the studio, Savage was trying to call Crush during the match, but he thinks maybe he has the wrong number or something, because there’s no way Crush would just not answer like that

Ludvig Borga vignette

The Headshrinkers v Mike Davis and Tony Roy: From the September 19 episode of Wrestling Challenge (taped August 18) in Lowell Massachusetts. The Headshrinkers at 3:54. Good energy from the Headshrinkers here. ¼*

Back in the studio, Macho is gone, so ‘Macho’ returns

From Wrestling Challenge, Jerry Lawler hosts the King’s Court, with guest President Jack Tunney. Lawler grills Tunney about how wrong it was for Doink the Clown to lose a SummerSlam, and Jack thinks they may need to try Lawler for fraud. Also, Tunney won’t hold Bret Hart responsible for what he does to Jerry the next time their paths cross. This was okay

Back in the studio, Todd is back in hiding

From RAW, Vince McMahon brings Bret Hart out for an in-ring interview, to discuss his feud with Jerry Lawler, and the match at SummerSlam. Not much notable, basically just Bret saying he's far from finished with Lawler

Back in the studio, Todd is out again. They don’t really have any transition between these segments, which is surprisingly weak for them

Bastion Booger v Mike Khoury: From the September 19 episode of Wrestling Challenge. The jokes about Booger’s stench and weight are just a shooting gallery for Jim Ross and Bobby Heenan on commentary here. Booger with a sitdown splash at 2:02. DUD

WWF Unbelievable ad. Apparently, bowling alleys across the country are losing business, so the WWF suggests airing RAW to bring people in. Yeah, let them go down with the ship

Irwin R. Schyster v PJ Walker: From the September 20 RAW. Walker tries a sneak attack, but gets cut off, and launched over the top for a shot into the steps. Back in, IRS stomps him, but here's Razor Ramon (to a great crowd reaction) as Irwin bodyslams the jobber. IRS gets distracted, however, and Walker schoolboys him at 1:18. DUD, but fun, and the crowd just loved it - and Razor.

Back in the studio, Todd finally gets caught, but Savage is more flattered than angry. Anyway, he’s way too focused on trying to get Crush on the phone to worry about anything else

BUExperience: Solid fun this week.
