Original Airdate: June 6, 1987
From Boston, Massachusetts; Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan, and Craig DeGeorge
Opening Match: Sivi Afi v Jose Estrada: Jose is subbing for Jimmy Jack Funk. He’s also dressed like Ric Flair in 1996, during the Green Bay Packers tribute phase. Whatever happened there. Afi with a bodypress, but Jose rolls through at 9:31. DUD
Demolition v The Can-Am Connection: Smash starts with Tom Zenk, and controls with power. Zenk manages a sunset flip for two, and the Connection use their speed to take control, peppering Ax with offense. A cheap shot from Mr. Fuji gets Zenk into trouble, however, and Demolition turn the tide. They cut the ring in half on Tom, until Rick Martel gets the tag, and he runs wild. Demolition double up to try and cut it off, but here comes Zenk, and Roseanne Barr the door! In the chaos, Martel catches Ax with a bodypress at 11:52. ½*
SD Jones v Pete Doherty: Another main event anywhere in the country. Not the world though, let’s not overstate it. Jones puts this dork away with a slam at 6:50. DUD
Honky Tonk Man v Koko B. Ware: Honky's title win hadn't aired on TV yet at this point, so they don't acknowledge him as champion. Honky dominates for a bit, but Koko proves to be too much for him. He starts working Honky’s leg, so Honky goes to the eyes, and that allows him to turn it around. Koko manages a sunset flip for two, but Honky cuts him off, and works a headvice. Koko escapes, and nails a bodypress for two, but Honky clotheslines him to cut it off. Another clothesline, and he goes back to the headvice. Koko escapes, and manages to get a comeback going, but walks into a swinging neckbreaker at 9:22. Dull pencil. ¼*
Tiger Chung Lee v Brad Rheingans: Does Rheingans have the AWA logo on his entrance jacket there? Lee with a tombstone at 5:53. What’s more shocking: that this made TV, or that Lee actually got the win? DUD
George Steele v Danny Davis: Davis with lots of stalling, literally minutes and minutes of it. Finally, he grabs a weapon and pops Steele with it to take control, but George comes back with a series of bodyslams, spamming them like he’s Brock Lesnar. Danny bails, and decides not to bother, walking out at 8:35. A total Memphis match. DUD
Lanny Poffo v Frenchy Martin: Poffo with a flying moonsault at 4:46. ¼*
Main Event: WWF Title Texas Death Match: Hulk Hogan v Harley Race: Race tries a sneak attack, but Hulk backdrops him over the top, and Hogan follows, choking him with his t-shirt out there. Hulk hits him with the chair a few times, and sinks his teeth into Harley’s face. Hulk with a smash into the announce table, and an atomic drop follows. Race manages to fight him off with a set of knux, and he catches Hulk with a headbutt drop on the floor. Back in for the first time since the first spot, and Race delivers a piledriver to set up a pair of kneedrops for two. Back to the outside, Hulk eats the rail, and inside, Race uses an elbowdrop for two. Race with a gutwrench suplex for two, and a 2nd rope elbowsmash sets up a kneedrop for two. Vertical suplex, but Hulk reverses, and follows up with a trio of clotheslines, before choking Race with a t-shirt, and unloading mounted punches. Race ends up on the outside, so Hulk chases Heenan, and Race manages to shove the champ into the post. They end up brawling over to the entrance area, and they tear off the curtain, with Race using it to choking Hogan down at ringside. That allows Harley a headbutt drop from the apron, and he grabs the title belt, nailing Hulk with it on the way back in. Race adds a kneedrop before going upstairs, but the flying headbutt drop gets blocked with Hulk pops him with the belt. Hulk adds another shot, and that’s the pin at 9:54. Once again, the Hulkster, despite the reputation, is carrying these shows on his back. ** ¾
BUExperience: Other than the main event, there’s absolutely nothing to see here.
