WWF Superstars (September 5, 1992)

Original Airdate: September 5, 1992 (taped August 10)

From Huntsville, Alabama; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect

We open with Vince narrating a look at SummerSlam, mostly focused on the WWF Title match between Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior, and the Intercontinental Title match between Bret Hart and Davey Boy Smith. This was actually pretty in-depth compared to most of the pay per view recaps I remember from the era, with extensive video, as opposed to just a few still photos. But then, this was still before they started doing replays (I believe WrestleMania IX was the first one)

The Legion of Doom v Gary Jackson and Jerry Stevens: LOD were already gone from the promotion after SummerSlam, but since this was taped before, this marks their final TV appearance until early 1997. Vince is, of course, all over Perfect about SummerSlam, but Perfect keeps brushing him off, saying that no one gets the 'last word' on Ric Flair. I'm still not sure what about SummerSlam was a failure for them. I mean, they successfully messed with both guys, and managed to injure Randy Savage, which they'd capitalize on by winning the WWF Title from him days later. Sounds like a complete and total success to me. What else could they want? It's not like Flair walking out of Wembley with the belt was ever on the menu. Doomsday Device finishes here at 2:23. Vince uses the LOD to shill ICOPRO, noting that you won't find any 'steroid freaks' in the WWF. Well, no wonder numbers were down. DUD

The Nasty Boys are coming to dinner

Big Boss Man looks like he's ready to storm the Capitol

Nailz v Tommy Stevenson: Hey, there's Nailz. Maybe Boss Man should do something, instead of just shouting threats from a safe distance. Vince notes that Nailz 'should not be allowed in the ring,' so there goes his plausible deniability for this whole run. Nailz with the choke at 1:52. DUD

WWF Tag Team Champions The Natural Disasters are ready to defend their title. Well, go ahead then. What's with everyone today? Less tell, more show

Rick Martel is still feels like a Rolls Royce. Overpriced and unreliable? Sounds more like Warrior to me

Crush v Kato: Crush split screens in on his own squash to let people know that he's all about 'these hands.' Poor guy was ahead of his time. And I still feel like this dude should have been a much bigger deal than he was. Head cruncher finishes at 2:29. Crush was looking pretty lazy this week, not even letting the big power moves pop. DUD

Mountie v Ken Wayne: Wayne looks like a particularly jobbery jobber. He actually looks like he'd be at home as a roadie. Not Jeff Jarrett's roadie, to be clear. He's so jobbery that he has to stop and pull up his tights in the middle of getting hit, which is just poor jobbering, frankly. Mountie with a piledriver and an arrogant pin at 1:40. This was really boring, even by sub two minute squash standards. DUD

Razor Ramon takes issue with Randy Savage calling himself the 'Macho Man.' I really wish we got a proper feud between those two, it writes itself

Virgil v Barry Horowitz: Good to see a proper jobber again. And he's even HEELING, denying Virgil a handshake at the bell! Maybe he was just worried he'd get hit with a bill for an 8x10 if he accepted. Virgil giving poor Barry a wedgie for half the match is pretty disturbing, frankly. Barry misses a corner charge and takes a Russian legsweep at 3:08. This felt endless. ¼*

Money Inc v Burt Stiles and Warren Quinn: Stop booing IRS! He's just doing his job as a public servant! Money Inc look really fired up this week for whatever reason, squashing these two geeks in energetic fashion. Ted DiBiase with the Million Dollar Dream to put it away at 3:10. ¼*

Tatanka is seeing visions on the spiritual grounds of the holy shaman. Maybe lay off the peace pipe there, my dude

Repo Man digs unemployment, because when unemployment is up, that's when he makes money. The pandemic must have been like Christmas for him

BUExperience: This episode was meant to be the ‘aftermath of SummerSlam,’ but it was taped weeks before the event ever happened, so it was mostly just spinning wheels.
