WWF Superstars (December 1, 1996)

Original Airdate: December 1, 1996 (taped November 19)

From Springfield, Massachusetts; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Jim Cornette

Six-Man Tag Team Match: Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart, and Crush v Marc Mero, Jake Roberts, and Savio Vega: Owen and Mero start, and trade wristlocks, as ‘Razor Ramon’ and ‘Diesel’ show up in the aisle, since they are getting a shot against Bulldog and Owen at In Your House. Really? Mero takes control with a kneelift, and he gets an armbar on, before passing o Savio. Vega works a wristlock for a while, and tags are made to Crush and Jake. They posture, and Roberts throws a series of jabs, then a short-clothesline. DDT, but Crush blocks, and unloads on Jake in the corner. Crush with a backbreaker, as the heels go to work on Roberts. Mero gets the hot tag, and runs wild on Bulldog for a bit, but gets clobbered by the heels, and that’s the end of that. They cut the ring in half on Mero, until Vega catches a hot tag, and Roseanne Barr the door! Crush nails Savio with a heart punch, and Hart pins him at 11:07. They had it in low gear here, and this felt really long as a result. ¾*

Recently, on the UK Xpress Tour in London England, Bret Hart tries to make sense of Bulldog saving him from an attack from Owen and Steve Austin on RAW, and he’s looking ahead to challenging Sid for the title at In Your House. This was fine, but does it look like it was shot on the middle of the night with a cheap camcorder?

Also on the UK Xpress Tour, Owen appreciates Austin aiding him against Bret, but tells him to keep his hands to himself when it comes to Bulldog

Executioner v Bert Centeno: As I’ve noted elsewhere, not only was Executioner’s vacant expression unnerving, but I’m surprised guys agreed to get into the ring with him. Centeno looks like a bootleg version of Rocky Maivia. Executioner with the asiatic spike at 3:27. This was as hollow as Executioner’s eyes. DUD

Kevin Kelly has Rocky Maivia out, but Jim Cornette hits the ring before he can say much, making a case to become Rocky’s manager. Jim notes that he can lead Rocky to the world title within just two years! And Rocky did just that - though without Cornette, as Maivia rejects him here

Leif Cassidy v Scott Taylor: Cornette is fuming, and promises revenge on Maivia. Cassidy with a German suplex at 4:00. Way too long, but Taylor was game to go out there and bump around for him. ¼*

Hunter Hearst Helmsley v Goldust: The WWF Intercontinental title is not on the line for this. Goldust dominates early on, and delivers a backdrop to the champion. Hunter fights him off in the corner, and unloads with chops over there, but misses a flying axehandle. That allows Goldust to unload in the corner, but a whip into the ropes gets reversed, and Helmsley backdrops him. Goldust bails, so HHH chases, but gets nailed, and fed the steps. Hunter responds by stealing a lit cigar from Marlena, and he hits Goldust with it before taking a countout win at 6:30. ¼*

BUExperience: Boring stuff this week, I was fighting to keep my eyes open at points.
