Original Airdate: March 16, 1990 (taped March 4)
From Rock Hill, South Carolina; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Gordon Solie
Jack Victory and Rip Morgan v Italian Stallion and Joe Cruz: The announcers can’t stop talking about some new team Ole Anderson will be introducing later on. Meanwhile, Victory and Morgan slowly squash these two jobbers, in the usual NWA/WCW fashion, before finally polishing it off with a tandem gourdbuster at 8:29. DUD
Solie is in the studio for the Wrestling News Network, with updates on various injuries: Arn Anderson is out with a neck injury, Brian Pillman caught a neck injury, and Sting is still dealing with his knee injury. Also, referee Tommy Young, Sid, and Mark Callous are in recovery from injuries. Gosh, how hard were these guys going? People talk about the WWF schedule being a killer, but WCW’s wasn’t exactly ‘light,’ it seems
The Wild Samoans v Mike Hart and Jerry Price: Another long, long squash here. Maybe they should have taken the WWF route of killing dudes in two minutes and then they wouldn’t have half their roster laid up with injuries. The flying splash ends this one at a mindnumbing 7:37. ¼*
Jim Cornette brings Ole Anderson out, and Ole clarifies that he’s the kind of guy who literally stepped over his brother (Gene) in order to win a title, so why should someone like Sting expect friendship from him? No discussion of whatever team the announcers have been on about all night
Tommy Rich and Ranger Ross v Cactus Jack and Kevin Sullivan: Jack takes a big bump over the top in the first thirty seconds, bless his heart. Inside, Ross grounds him in a side-headlock, and he passes to Tommy for a headlock of his own. The babyfaces take turns working Cactus, but Jack catches Ross with a backelbow. He tries a suplex, but Ross blocks, and throws a bodypress for two. Tag back to Tommy for a standing headlock, but Kevin catches a tag. Ross puts him in a headlock as well, so Kevin pulls it out of the ring, but Ross keeps hold of the headlock, and shuffles away from the heel corner to avoid a shot from Jack. Inside, Rich also digs in with a headlock, until he gets into trouble with a missed elbowdrop, and the heels take over. They cut the ring in half on Rich, and Sullivan wraps him up with a cradle (complete with a handful of tights) at 10:12. This wasn’t a squash, but it was hardly a notable feature. Afterwards, Norman the Lunatic runs in on the heels, but loses a two front war, so Mike Rotunda makes the save. ½*
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are named Wrestler of the Week. Both of them. No wonder the team split
BUExperience: A total yawn.
Oh, and for those wondering, Ole’s mystery team ended up being Mike Enos and Wayne Bloom (as the Minnesota Wrecking Crew II), fresh from the AWA.
