NWA (WCW) Power Hour (February 9, 1990)

Original Airdate: February 9, 1990 (taped January 30)

From Marietta, Georgia; Your Hosts are Jim Ross and Gordon Solie

Great Muta and Buzz Sawyer v Italian Stallion and Zan Panzer: I get that not everyone has to look like a bodybuilder or Greek god, but Sawyer looks way, way too much like your goofy uncle to take seriously as a pro-wrestler. You could argue that his look isn’t much different than, say, Arn Anderson… but it works for Arn. Oddly, according to Ross, he will be appearing on the Arsenio Hall Show in March. Of everyone on the roster, him?! Solie gets in a line about how Muta ‘isn’t quick, he’s sudden,’ which Ross totally stole from him later. I just heard him use it to describe X-Pac while watching Breakdown 1998. Sawyer with a flying splash at 7:06. Really long, and not interesting. DUD

Gordon Solie is in the studio with Wrestling News Network

The Road Warriors aren’t afraid of the Skyscrapers. You tell ‘em, Animal. Don’t let buildings scare you

The Skyscapers v The Galaxians: Oh, that’s what they meant. Okay, that makes more sense. Dan Spivey with a powerbomb at 4:32. DUD

Terry Funk hosts Funk’s Grill, and immediately announces that this is the last episode, since he’s moving to World Wide Wrestling. But he doesn’t want his replacement to be anyone better than him, so he selects Jim Cornette

Sting v Jack Victory: All the talk is about how the Horsemen betrayed Sting at the Clash, but not a word about the knee injury, since this was taped prior. Sting with the Scorpion Deathlock at 13:39. Why the reliance on these overlong squashes? It’s Sting. Just let him go out there and wreck dudes! And it’s not like they didn’t already discover that formula, it had already served them so well with guys like Magnum TA or the Road Warriors. Just do that! Luckily, they’d remember it by the time they got around to Goldberg. ¼*

Ross closes the show by announcing that the Horsemen have attacked Sting ‘somewhere outside of the wrestling ring,’ and his knee has been injured. Ah, so that’s how we get there. Ross promises a report by tomorrow on World Championship Wrestling

BUExperience: Not one of the better episodes. I miss Cornette on commentary, he always livened things up.
