Goody Bag 91: Farmers Market

WWF Title Harlem Street Fight: Randy Savage v Bad News Brown: From Hamilton Ontario Canada on January 16 1989, with both guys in street clothes. Brown attacks as Randy is climbing into the ring, and Savage ends up down on the outside. Brown hits him with a chair as Randy gets into the ring, and Brown chokes him with the chair for good measure. Brown tosses Randy over the top, but Macho fights him off, and gets some shots in with his weight belt. Savage takes a chair to the top rope and dives, but Brown blocks, and uses the chair on the champion. To the outside, where Brown throws Macho over the guardrail for a bump, and he brings a table into the ring, as the referee gets bumped. Brown hits an enzuigiri, but there’s no one of count, so Brown kicks the shit out of the already downed official. Brown uses a bodyslam, but the referee is still down, despite Brown’s efforts to revive him with beatings. Brown tries a slam through the table, but Savage counters to a backslide, and a second referee slides in to count three at 6:49. Not great, but fun, and ahead of its time. ¾*

Randy Savage and Undertaker v Ric Flair and Berzerker: From Portland Maine on July 21 1992. Savage and Flair start, and they just kind of posture. Tag to Undertaker, and Flair immediately begs off. That doesn’t work, so he tries chops, but Undertaker no-sells them. Undertaker with a pair of press-slams, so you can guess who is calling these spots out there. Tag to Berzerker for a slugfest, so Flair distracts Undertaker, and Berzerker big boots him out of the ring. Undertaker pulls him out after him, however, and Berzerker eats the steps a few times. Tag to Macho for a flying axehandle on the way back in, getting Randy two. Berzerker goes low to shake him off, and Ric is right there for a cheap shot. The heels cut the ring in half on Savage, but Undertaker gets the hot tag. Berzerker takes a tombstone, so Flair comes in, but Undertaker clotheslines him right back out. Tag to Randy to put a punctuation mark on Berzerker with the flying elbowdrop at 12:01. ½*

Madusa v Luna Vachon: The exact date isn't clear, but this is most likely from the Capitol Sport Promotions 20th Anniversary show in Bayamon Puerto Rico on August 8 1993. Luna with a takedown right away, and they trade off on the mat, feeling each other out. Madusa gets the better of the exchange, and they square off again. Madusa with an armdrag into an armbar, but Luna fights to a vertical base, and nails her with a punch. Luna dumps her to the outside, and follows to keep the attack going, sending Madusa into the guardrail. Madusa hustles back inside, and she lands a clothesline, then a bodyslam. Madusa with an earringer, so Luna goes low a few times, and grabs a nervehold. She shifts to a bodyscissors from there, but Madusa escapes, and holds a chinlock. Luna reverses, and a pair of snapmares get her two. Luna with a cross corner whip, but Madusa flips over the buckles to block, and uses another takedown. Luna cuts her off with a jumping clothesline for two, but a charge in the corner misses, and Madusa vertical superplexes her for two. A double knockout spot follows, but Madusa is up first, and comes off the middle with a dropkick, but Luna dodges, and cradles at 7:29. ¾*

WWF Title Cage Match: Sycho Sid v Bret Hart: From New York City on March 16 1997. Bret actually manages to pound Sid down in the corner right away, but Sid gets up, and returns the favor. Bret tries to climb out, but Sid pulls him back down, and continues hammering. Bret manages to pop off a headbutt, and a snapmare allows him to go after the leg a bit. Sid fights him off again, and climbs, but Bret meets him at the top of the cage. Hart manages to pull him back in, and he delivers a backbreaker to the champion. Bret adds a headbutt drop to the groin, and he goes for the door, but Sid cuts him off. Sid scoops the Hitman up to run into the cage a few times, and a bodyslam follows. That allows Sid to climb, but he’s taking his sweet time, and Bret recovers. Bret with a Russian legsweep, and a stomp to the groin, ahead of a pointed elbowdrop. That’s enough to allow Hart a climb attempt, but Sid saves. He sets up for the powerbomb, but Hart counters to the Sharpshooter, and he wrenches it on! Bret lets off so he can climb, but Sid slams him off the top rope to keep his hopes alive. Sid with a cross corner whip to rattle the ring, and he climbs, but Bret meets him at the top, and vertical superplexes him off! I’m legitimately shocked to see Sid take that bump. Bret climbs, and makes it over the top, but Sid is able to scurry for the door, and escape just ahead of the Hitman to retain at 9:52. This wasn’t a classic, but it was better than I expected. * ¼
