Chair Shots and Miscarriages of Justice: WWE Battleground 2016

CHAIR SHOTS AND MISCARRIAGES OF JUSTICE
BATTLEGROUND 2016
BY: DOUBLE M

Rosters are reset, one last throwdown before everyone goes their separate ways.  Odds that Battleground 2017 features Smackdown Live superstars vs. RAW superstars…..

BEST MATCH:  Going into the night I was pretty sure which match was going to win this category, however being the objective-reviewer-know-it-all I am I made sure to be as objective as possible.  Seeing as The Miz vs. Darren Young matchup didn’t leave us feeling great again I guess we’ll have to cave and give it to Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn again.  Seriously what egos these guys have stealing the show for the 3rd PPV in a row with their intense dislike of each other, and throwing each other into the ring posts and tables and barricades, and Owens pimp slapping Zayn in the middle of the ring basically because Zayn dared him too. It’s like they have no consideration for anyone else’s matches and all they cared about was their own petty feud.  I love the ‘oh fuck’ look on Owens’ face before he does his belly flop splash.  They do know they’ll be on RAW together still, it’s not like this can’t be picked up again after.  Pricks.  Seriously though the fight between these two have been epic and the only way they can top this is basically a steel cage deathmatch.

WORST MATCH:   Apparently a change in opponent can’t save Natalya from returning to this category.  Just annoying all around the spots and reactions were awkward, Natty’s ‘taunts’ were down there with Charlotte’s “wooing”.  She is right though Becky’s one hot lass.

MOST DISAPPOINTING MOMENT:  The Highlight Reel was the filler it was meant to be plus start the build up to Orton/Lesner at Summer Slam, however as it dragged on I was begging for quiet.  Quiet.  Quiet.  QUIET.  QUIET!!!  Or at least an RKO that we all saw coming from the first promo aah there it is, let’s move on.

BEST MOMENT:   Sasha Banks needed a partner so it would make sense that she’d pick some on the RA- holy crap hugs for everyone [except you Dana Brooke] it’s draft “snub” Bayley!  If the crowd wasn’t ready to go they certainly were once Bayley’s music hit, and thankfully the match that transpired was able to keep it going.  Solid opener and the best women’s match we’ve seen on a PPV since Mania.  Fast paced with Sasha showing a legit threat to Charlotte and her title, Bayley showed she wasn’t intimidated on the big stage either and no doubt will get the call soon.

PARTING SHOTS:
-So the Tag Team Champion New Day and Women’s Champion Charlotte both in competition but their titles were NOT up for grabs…. call me old school but if the champ is in a match on a PPV the belt should be on the line.  Leave these kinds of matches for Monday and Tuesday nights.
-Hey The Wyatt’s made it to Washington D.C.!
-Kudos for WWE Creative for having the stones to keep the Intercontinental and WWE titles on Smackdown Live superstars’.  For sure it legitimizes the show, but I thought for sure RAW would get at least one of them being “The Flagship”.
-Weird match with The Miz and Darren Young.  Probably the most “scientific wrestling”/old school match we’ve seen in a bit.  I think there’s potential for something good between these two.
-Lastly your moment of zen courtesy of JBL:  “If you ever don’t know what to do just kick your opponent in the head”.

Angry Rating Scale: 8
