Original Airdate: July 18, 1992 (taped June 29)
From Glens Falls, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect
The Natural Disasters v Brooklyn Brawler and Duane Gill: After weeks of radio silence, suddenly the announcers are all about hyping SummerSlam, which is now officially taking place in London at Wembley Stadium. WWF Tag Team Champions Money Inc show up on split screen to cut a promo on the Disasters, though that wouldn't happen at SummerSlam, the Disasters instead winning the belts at a house show just two days after this episode first aired. Gill eats the splash combo at 2:40. ¼*
Gene Okerlund is at the control center to officially announce SummerSlam, including clips of the press conference at Wembley. And he reveals that the main event will be WWF Champion Randy Savage defending against Ultimate Warrior
Ric Flair v Glen Ruth: Vince is playing up that Flair is in a bad mood because Warrior is getting the title shot at SummerSlam, which is funny considering this match was taped before any announcement was made. But, you know, maybe he just had a bad feeling inside? That can happen. Regardless, he's working like he's in a foul mood, so it works out. Figure Four finishes at 2:42. Pretty energetic squash from the Nature Boy this week. ¼*
Sgt. Slaughter needs a hug
The Nasty Boys promise to be cruel to animals
We get clips of WWF Intercontinental Champion Bret Hart defending against Ricky Martel, which will air in its entirety this Monday on Prime Time Wrestling. So, they're openly acknowledging that show is taped, but Flair is supposedly pissed about stuff that happened weeks after he was pissed? I'm so confused
Virgil v Dave Millson: Someone in the crowd actually has a Virgil t-shirt on, which is probably the most amazing thing we'll see this week. Another kid actually jumps up and down with excitement about seeing Virgil, which I have to assume is some sort of editing trick. He was probably hyped about Flair, and they just spliced the clip in here. Let's be real. Virgil with the Russian legsweep at 1:42. ¼*
The Beverly Brothers make fun of Rocco. I assume this was a face turn
Tito Santana is right in the thick of things. Some say he may even be in the running to be WWF Champion. Stop laughing. Please
Repo Man v Greg Starr: I get putting guys out there and trying to get them over, but why waste time on Repo Man. This character is ice cold, and even Virgil is getting a better response. When you're sub-Virgil, it's time to pack it in. Half-crab finishes at 1:32. DUD
WWF superstars will face off against WBF superstars in a tug-of-war on WBF Bodystars, but which won’t air on WWF Superstars. Stars for everyone!
Okerlund brings Big Boss Man out for a podium interview, in Boss Man's first appearance since the attack by Nailz back in May. Anyway, he's still pretty mad at Nailz. So mad... so mad... so mad... he'd wait patiently until November to wrestle him. At least that's how it felt on TV, since they had no interaction before Survivor Series
Mountie v Jason Knight: Knight looks so goofy here, with that crazy tan and hair style. He's so dark, I'm surprised he hasn't had to issue an apology for wearing blackface. 1992 was a very different time. Mountie with a dropkick at 1:52. DUD
WrestleFest '92 is available this Thursday from Coliseum Video. That was a pretty fun tape, if I recall, with some funny segments from Okerlund and Bobby Heenan, as well as Berzerker. And it's on the Network now
Razor Ramon is out on the beach, messing up a perfectly fine pair of pants
Davey Boy Smith v Vito Krus: Well, this match certainly has a very European flair. Gee, I wonder who Davey Boy will face at SummerSlam? Probably Repo Man, I'd bet. Considering he pops in for a split screen promo, that might actually still be the case. Which would be a huge brainfart on their part, if true. I just covered Battle Royal at Albert Hall the other day, and Smith's popularity in London was beyond insane. Bulldog with the Running Powerslam at 2:01. DUD
Kamala does things with the greatest of ease
Crush is on his period
WWF Champion Randy Savage is ready to go face-to-face with Ultimate Warrior next week. And he's not gonna blink. Meanwhile, Warrior agrees to listen, but won't use his ears
BUExperience: Nothing major, and still no star/star matches, but finally announcing SummerSlam and establishing a main event to build to is already a very welcome change.
