NWA (JCP) World Championship Wrestling (January 24, 1987)

Original Airdate: January 24, 1987

From Atlanta, Georgia; Your Host is Tony Schiavone

The Russians are out to yell about Nikita Koloff’s betrayal

Jimmy Valiant v Randy Barber: Valiant does us all a favor, and wraps this up at 0:04. Afterwards, Valiant swings by to complement good looks. DUD

Brad Armstrong is out, and looking to get into it with the Four Horsemen. Talk about ‘biting off more than you can chew’

Dick Murdoch and Baron von Raschke v Brodie Chase and Larry Stephens: What the fuck is this team now? Dick gets the pin at 1:28. Afterwards, they swing by the desk to whatever the fuck. DUD

NWA Television Title Match: Tully Blanchard v Zane Smith: Tully with the slingshot suplex at 1:11. DUD

Barry Windham is out, and he’ll get the job done against Ric Flair. Next time. If ya could’a, you would’a

The Horsemen are out to talk about how exclusive the group is, Lex Luger take note

Lex Luger v Randy Mulkey: Despite the comments, JJ Dillon hangs around to observe. Lex with the torture rack at 1:25, and Dillon hops onto the apron to congratulate him on the win. Afterwards, Lex swings by the desk, but he clams up about what exactly JJ whispered to him in the ring. That draws Windham out, again trying to dissuade him from wanting to be a Horsemen. Lex is sick of his big brother act, and he warns Barry to leave it be, or next time it won’t be a warning. DUD

The Road Warriors are out, and pissed that no one is accepting their challenges. Well, have they tried saying ‘please?’ Or, alternatively, ‘pretty please?’ Or, alternatively still, ‘pretty please, with sugar on top?’ Do I have to think of everything?

Brad Armstrong v Gary Royal: Bad Brad with a Russian legsweep at 6:06. I’ve always considered myself an Armstrong fan, but no wonder he never got over as a big star with these extended squashes where he gives the jobber a ton. DUD

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are out, still chasing the tag title. That draws David Allan Coe to show off the most unnerving hair I’ve ever seen. And this was the 1980s! That’s a high bar! Hell, Tony’s mullet here is unnerving enough as it is

NWA United States Champion Nikita Koloff and Dusty Rhodes are out to show off their blading scars

The Rock 'n' Roll Express v David Isley and Eddie Roberts: The Express with the dropkick combo at 3:53. DUD

NWA Central States Champion Bill Dundee and Jimmy Garvin are out to chronicle more unfortunate hair

Rick Rude and Manny Fernandez v Tommy Angel and Chance McQuade: The NWA World Tag Team title is not on the line. Rude uses a DDT at 3:41. No wonder he had a beef with Jake Roberts just as soon as he got to the WWF. Afterwards, they swing by the desk, laughing off the Express’ challenge. DUD

Vladimir Petrov v Alan Martin: Petrov quickly ends this at 0:44. Afterwards, he and Ivan Koloff swing by the desk to rant. Gosh, the blading scars in this era were intense. DUD

Jim Cornette is out, furious that Tony gave Paul Ellering a copy of the Starrcade VHS

Six-Man Tag Team Match: Bobby Eaton, Dennis Condrey, and Big Bubba Rogers v George South, Bill Mulkey, and Denny Brown: Cornette stays on to do commentary here. Bubba with a sitout powerbomb at 4:56. Bubba should have kept using that, it looked devastating - especially in 1987! ¼*

Arn Anderson v Bill Tabb: Anderson with a rotating spinebuster at 1:36. DUD

Luger is back out to once again ‘announce his desire’ to become a Horsemen

BUExperience: I’m really enjoying the Luger stuff.
