NWA (WCW) Power Hour (August 24, 1990)

Original Airdate: August 24, 1990 (taped August 13)

From Gainesville, Georgia; Your Host is Jim Ross

Stan Hansen v Rick Ford: They waste no time this week, with the bell sounding only a minute into the broadcast. Now that’s how we like things! Hansen kicks the shit out of him, but gets too jazzy with it, and gets disqualified at 1:16. This made its point. DUD

Gordon Solie is in the studio for Wrestling News Network, and Sid Vicious has been acting crazy lately. Almost, maybe, ‘psycho,’ you might say

Hector Guerrero v Mark Kile: Guerrero with an Oklahoma roll at 6:46. And then Hector left all of this to go and be the Gobbledy Gooker. DUD

The Southern Boys v Snake Wilson and Death Row: Man, ‘Snake Wilson’ is an incredible wrestler name to waste on a jobber. Row wasn’t a good worker, but he’s the kind of big ass scary looking motherfucker that you had to think would get a shot in the WWF at some point. Hell, I’m kind of surprised he didn’t get the Nailz gimmick. It’s not like he was worse in the ring than Kevin Wacholz. The Boys finish Wilson with a combo at 4:27. DUD

Jim Cornette hosts the Louisville Slugger, with guest Ric Flair. Flair clarifies that he doesn’t know who the Black Scorpion is, and even more so, he’s offended that anyone would think any Horsemen would ever hide himself under a mask. “If your lifestyle were any more public, you’d be in jail,” notes Cornette. Anyway, Flair will use Lex Luger as a stepping stone to get to Sting himself

Sting v Chris Sullivan: The NWA World Title is not on the line. Sting with the scorpion deathlock at 2:05. DUD

NWA World Tag Team Title Match: Doom v The New Fantastics: Ron Simmons starts with Jackie Fulton, and powers him around, mockingly. Jackie manages a bodypress for two, and a dropkick rattles the champion. Jackie with a punch, and Ron staggers away to tag out. Butch Reed gets caught in a headlock as he comes in, and Bobby Fulton tags in to hold one of his own. Doom try double teaming, but the Fantastics outsmart them, until the referee sends Jackie out, and Doom manage a quick combo before the official can restore order. That puts Bobby in trouble, and Doom put it away at 5:23. Afterwards, Doom keep the beating going, but the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express save. ½*

Six-Man Tag Team Match: Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, and Sid Vicious v Bob Holly, Tim Parker, and Brad Batton: Flair lets Sid deliver a powerbomb, before putting Parker away with his figure four at 3:36. Afterwards, Paul Orndorff, Junkyard Dog, and El Gigante chase the heels off. It’s so, so weird seeing Sid absolutely towered like that. DUD

BUExperience: Fun stuff this week.
