WWF Sunday Night Heat (February 28, 1999)

Original Airdate: February 28, 1999

From Dayton, Ohio; Your Hosts are Kevin Kelly and Terry Taylor. Odd to get a live show on a non-pay per view night

Backstage, WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Gillberg is making his overblown entrance, when Chyna attacks him, and beats him up. With Gillberg down and out of the way, Chyna storms down to the ring to take his segment, and she’s furious that Triple H put his hands on her back on RAW. And it’s the last time. Except that she challenges him to a match for tonight, so I guess not really the last time, then?

Backstage, WWF Tag Team Champions Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett are on the move

Backstage, D-lo Brown and Ivory arrive at the building

Backstage, WWF European Champion Shane McMahon wants to talk to Chyna about her gameplan, but she brushes him off

Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett v Too Much: The WWF Tag Team title is not on the line. Debra McMichael distracts Scott Taylor, allowing Jeff to sneak attack. Jeff dominates, but fails to put it away, and passes to Owen. Hart unloads on Taylor, and a backbreaker connects, as the announcers keep noting that the satellite feed has died, so they’re just calling this like radio. We have picture here, though, so I’m not sure if it was restored, or just a different feed. Brian Christopher tags in, but gets chopped in the corner by Owen, and Jeff tags in for a double team. Jeff hits a dropkick, and Owen with a spinheel kick. That draws Taylor in, but Jeff takes him out, as Owen sets up the Sharpshooter on Christopher. He nearly hooks it, but gets distracted by D-lo Brown coming down, and the DOA are able to nail Hart. That allows Christopher a flying legdrop on Owen at 3:54. Afterwards, D-lo and Ivory take the microphone, and they’re mad that Jacqueline attacked D-lo, since he can’t do anything about it as a gentleman. I guess Triple H doesn’t have that problem, then. Anyway, Ivory challenges Jackie to something right now. ½*

The Footaction Rewind is Jackie hitting D-lo with a missile dropkick on RAW

Jacqueline v Ivory: Both are in street clothes here, and we’re off. Jackie dominates, but misses a 2nd rope splash, and frankly, I’m impressed that she was even able to attempt that in heels! Ivory capitalizes on the miss with a bulldog at 1:02. DUD

Backstage, Michael Cole catches up with the Oddities, ahead of Kurrgan’s scheduled match against Undertaker

WrestleMania XV countdown clock

Backstage, Blue Meanie feeds Goldust grapes. Actual grapes, not a euphemism

Undertaker v Kurrgan: You know who the star here is because the chyron is ‘Undertaker, with the Ministry,’ while Kurrgan simply gets ‘Oddities.’ Undertaker wins a criss cross with a jumping clothesline, and he turnbuckle smashes Kurrgan, before going to town in the corner. Undertaker with a cross corner whip to set up a chokeslam at 0:42. This was really short, but I enjoyed Undertaker doing his usual act on a guy the size of Kurrgan. I guess he did learn something from working with Giant Gonzalez then. Afterwards, the Ministry comes in to beat down the Oddities, and when they’re done, Undertaker takes the microphone, promising another surprise for Vince McMahon tomorrow night. ¼*

Cole brings Goldust and Blue Meanie out, mostly just to establish that they’re really fucking weird

Backstage, Triple H laces up his boots

WrestleMania XV ad

Backstage, Cole catches up with Steve Blackman to talk about the Kendo Stick Match he’s having with Droz on RAW, but before he can say much, Droz attacks him with a kendo stick

Public Enemy v The Hardy Boyz: The Brood ascend from underneath the stage, allowing the Boyz to attack, kickstarting things. The Boyz are still dressed like a gay version of the Rockers here (down to Jeff having ‘PRIDE’ down the side of his leg), which is such a weird look for them when you’re used to their ‘classic’ look. The Enemy fight off the initial blitz, and put Matt Hardy away at 2:20. Afterwards, the Brood attack the Enemy. DUD

Backstage, Chyna and Shane head towards the ring

The Lucky Dog 10-10-345 Slam of the Week is HHH pedigreeing Chyna on RAW. Man, I generally remember most of the companies that advertise on these shows, but I don’t even remember that brand existing. It sounds like a joke, but somehow they got Fred Willard as a pitchman. A quick bit of research reveals that it was owned by AT&T, so I guess that’s where they got the cash

Triple H v Chyna: X-Pac chases Shane McMahon around, allowing Chyna to hit HHH from behind. She unloads on Hunter in the corner, but telegraphs a backdrop, and eats a kneeling facebuster. Pedigree, but the lights die before he can deliver it, and here’s Kane! HHH lets Chyna loose to face off with Kane, but that allows her a low blow, and Kane chokeslams him. Another chokeslam, and why is the referee just kind of hanging around and watching. Kane with a tombstone, and we just go off the air, so I assume HHH won by DQ at 1:29, but who really knows. DUD

BUExperience: Nothing of real importance happened, but it felt lively, and made you feel like anything could happen. Good enough!
