WWF Superstars (March 19, 1994)

Original Airdate: March 19, 1994 (taped February 22)

Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Johnny Polo from various locations in New York City

They open the show from atop the Empire State Building, where Vince is really excited about WrestleMania making the front page of the Daily News. I have to say, that WrestleMania X hat is pretty nice

Clips of the last year in the WWF Title, with Yokozuna winning the title at WrestleMania IX, then on to Lex Luger showing up at the bodyslam challenge on July 4 to bodyslam him, making himself the number one contender. I like how they just completely glossed over Hulk Hogan’s fifth title reign there. So after the bodyslam heard ‘round the world, Lex ‘touched the hearts of everyone’ (likely with loads of hand sanitizer on deck), but failed to win the title at SummerSlam. That leads to the Royal Rumble, where Lex and Bret Hart tie in the Rumble match. Nothing special here, but a good recap for anyone not up to speed

WWF Champion Yokozuna, Jim Cornette, and Mr Fuji deliver a pre-taped promo on both of Yoko’s challengers

Back atop the Empire State Building, Vince and Johnny look down at Madison Square Garden, while debating who will walk out of there with the gold tomorrow

Rhonda Shear is excited about getting to meet WWF Intercontinental Champion Razor Ramon

Vince and Johnny are now at the Harley Davidson Cafe, and apparently Vince wants to ride Rhonda instead of the bikes

Up next, another recap, this time of the Intercontinental title picture over the last six months, with Shawn Michaels getting stripped of the title for failing to defend it enough, and Razor Ramon winning the vacant title a few weeks later. But then Shawn returned, and since he never got beaten, he still laid claim to the title, so at ‘Mania we’re getting a Ladder match to settle it

Back at the Cafe, Johnny is getting his drink on

It’s time for a recap of the WWF Tag Team title picture, but since there’s no actual feud between champions the Quebecers and challengers Men on a Mission, they just show random clips from squash matches. I don’t think they ever even had a bit of actual interaction with each other on TV to build up the match. Kind of a shame the Steiner Brothers fell out, because they had a strong feud with the Quebecers with months of backstory, and it probably would have been a great match on top of things

Vince and Johnny are getting hot dogs on the street in Times Square, and Vince seems so embarrassed to be associated with his own product

Sy Sperling is excited about trying to give Mr Fuji a toupe

Vince and Johnny are walking in front of the Plaza Hotel, where Johnny tries hiring a handsome cab with a platinum card. That joke doesn’t quite work in 2023, when literally everyone can accept plastic

Review of the Randy Savage/Crush feud. Another good program that they spent a lot of time developing, they really had a great card for ‘Mania

Vince and Johnny ride in the horse carriage, as two guys are known to do

This weeks WrestleMania Moment is Aretha Franklin singing America the Beautiful at WrestleMania III

Todd Pettengill is in the studio for the WrestleMania Report. A pretty pointless one, considering literally this entire show has been a long version of that exact thing

Review of the Bret Hart/Owen Hart feud, and on a card filled with long simmering and well developed programs, this is best in show. Epic, subtle, perfect

Vince and Johnny wrap up back at the Hard Rock

Men on a Mission’s WrestleMania X Rap closes us out

BUExperience: WrestleMania X is my favorite show of all time, so it’s hard for me to be objective about an entire episode dedicated to hyping it.

Is it good? No.

Did I enjoy the hell out of it? Yep.

Will you? Well, you’re reading an article about it thirty years after the fact when you could literally be doing anything else instead.

So, I’m going with ‘yes.’
