WWF Superstars (May 21, 1994)

Original Airdate: May 21, 1994 (taped April 27)

From Albany, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler

Razor Ramon v Derek Domino: Another good arena for this taping cycle. I mean, they ran the ‘92 Rumble pay per view here, definitely a step up from some of the gymnasiums they were running in late ‘93. Though, they’d be in even smaller venues by the end of ‘94. Razor with a really aggressive squash this week, finishing with the Razor’s Edge at 4:20. Too long, but I liked the fire from the Bad Guy this week. ¼*

Crush v Mike Terrence: We get a fan doing the ring announcing for this one. Crush cuts a promo on Lex Luger before the match, as they pivot away from Mr Perfect. Crush quickly puts it away at 0:55. DUD

Live Event News chronicles Diesel’s challenge of Bret Hart for the WWF Title at King of the Ring, as they try to build the match despite no issue between the two before announcing the bout. They ended up doing a pretty good job with it, though, as I remember being really into it as a kid. They really made Diesel look like a monster, with a lot of doubt about how Bret would be able to get it done against him

Duke Droese v Mike Bell: This is Duke’s TV debut, and Lawler is in the aisle to ‘welcome’ him to the WWF. Duke responds by emptying his trash can on the King, and boy, really giving Jerry the top level stuff ahead of his pay per view headlining bout, huh? Droese takes out the trash at 2:13. DUD

Todd Pettengill is in the studio for the King of the Ring Report, and the only real announcement this week is that the Headshrinkers are going to defend the WWF Tag Team title against Yokozuna and Crush, and Todd is already wondering how much those guys weigh

The Headshrinkers v Jim Massenger and Raymond Roy: The WWF Tag Team title is not on the line. The jobbers are actually somewhat color coordinated, so this is almost a star/star match, really. The Headshrinkers with the Fatu flying splash at 2:24. DUD

Some clerk at a Brooklyn Dunkin’ reports he’s seen Undertaker. Well, at least he’s moved on from standing around outside of schoolyards and playgrounds

Meanwhile, Ted DiBiase is hanging around in a cemetery, where he announces that he’s located Undertaker, and is in the process of making him an offer he can’t refuse. Based on the previous segment, a couple of bear claws ought to do it

King of the Ring Tournament Qualifying Match: Lex Luger v Jeff Jarrett: Jarrett has Mr Fuji in his corner for this one, in an effort to throw Luger off of his game. Lawler has the audacity to compare Jarrett’s physique to Luger’s, which, of course, triggers McMahon in a major way. Lex dominates early on, and a bodypress gets him two, so Jeff begs off in the ropes. Jarrett tries a hammerlock, and he shifts to a wristlock as Lex tries reversing. Jarrett cranks on the arm, but a backelbow misses, and Luger press-slams him. Lex with a pair of clotheslines, but Fuji whacks him with the flagpole to block a third. That allows Jarrett to put the boots to him, and a cross corner whip works, but the charge in doesn’t, and Lex schoolboys him for two. Jarrett cuts him off, and he delivers a 2nd rope axehandle, followed by a 2nd rope clothesline for two. Lex gets fired up again, so Jarrett dumps him to the outside, where Crush runs out to attack. Lex takes the bait and chases him up the aisle for a brawl, allowing Jarrett to pick up the countout at 7:50. ¾*

Live Event News wonders if the Headshrinkers are competent enough to hold on to the tag title. Well, that’s just rude

Vince and Jerry bring 1-2-3 Kid out to talk about his KOTR Qualifier against Adam Bomb next week, with Lawler cracking jokes at him the whole time

BUExperience: This was a pretty dull one.
