NWA (JCP) World Championship Wrestling (March 21, 1987)

Original Airdate: March 21, 1987 (taped March 15)

From Atlanta, Georgia; Your Hosts are Tony Schiavone and David Crockett

Barry Windham is out right away, ready for his shot at NWA World Champion Ric Flair

Ivan Koloff and Vladimir Petrov v Alan Martin and Larry Clarke: Petrov polishes this off at 4:29. Pretty dull. DUD

Ron Garvin and Jimmy Garvin are out to talk about the Crockett Cup. Or, well, Ron talks. Jimmy just shouts a lot

Manny Fernandez is out to hype the Crockett Cup. How can we take him seriously when his tag partner doesn’t even show up here?

Jimmy Garvin v Kent Glover: Garvin with the brainbuster at 3:26. I still don’t get how we’re supposed to cheer this version of Garvin. It’s just such a heel act. DUD

JJ Dillon is out to show off clips of he and Arn Anderson beating up Ole Anderson at a live event. That leads to Ole storming into the dressing room to mouth off to Ric Flair, which gets him attacked by all of the Horsemen. Good segment

NWA World Champion Ric Flair is out, talking about how he basically grew up idolizing Ole, but that’s not going to stop the Horsemen from destroying him now

Arn Anderson and Lex Luger v Tommy Angel and Larry Stephens: Luger gets to finish with the torture rack at 3:27. DUD

Brad Armstrong v Paul Garner: Brad with the Russian legsweep for the pin at 4:47. This dragged. DUD

NWA Television Champion Tully Blanchard is out, mocking Ole for going out on the bottom. And in front of his son, no less

Jim Crockett is out to talk about what we can expect to see on night one of the Crockett Cup

Tim Horner v El Lobo: Horner with a bridging rollup at 4:50. Afterwards, Horner swings by the desk, excited for his shot at the Crockett Cup. Again, no partner, no buys from me. DUD

NWA United States Champion Nikita Koloff is out, and he’ll be at the Crockett Cup too. I get that it was a different era and a territory style promotion, but man, they’re spending so much TV time building a show that won’t air on TV or pay per view

Wahoo McDaniel v Randy Barber: Wahoo with a knife-edge chop at 3:58. DUD

Ron Garvin v Dexter Wescott: Gosh, how long is this stupid show? Garvin with the knockout punch at 5:40. This was punishingly long for a squash. DUD

Jim Cornette is out, dressed up like Jimmy Garvin, and mocking him, complete with a centerfold of ‘Precious,’ which is a dude in a bikini. Tony was fighting for his life to avoid cracking up here

Bobby Eaton v Alan Fox: Eaton scores the pin at 4:05. DUD

The Rock 'n' Roll Express v Zane Smith and Darrell Dalton: The Express with a combo at 3:03. At least this one wasn’t three hours long. DUD

Lex Luger is out to talk about the Horsemen lifestyle

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are back out, and man, what would they even spend that $1,000,000 Crockett Cup prize money on? How much can a lifetime collection of cutoff t-shirts and handkerchiefs even be?

Barry Windham v Bill Tabb: Windham with a jumping clothesline at 3:39. DUD

The Horsemen are back out to basically say the exact same shit they’ve been saying all night

BUExperience: This show can test my patience sometimes. It’s just so repetitive, and doesn’t feel like it has two hours worth of content every week.
