Original Airdate: April 13, 1985 (taped March 26)
From Poughkeepsie, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Bruno Sammartino
Greg Valentine v Doc Butler: The WWF Intercontinental title is not on the line for this. Valentine with the figure four at 3:41. DUD
Lord Alfred Hayes is in the studio for Update, with a look at the beef between Brutus Beefcake and Hillbilly Jim. Alfred is terrible in this role
David Sammartino v Dave Barbie: David puts this away at a brisk 1:03, like a proper star. I mean, he isn’t a proper star, but at least he’s squashing like one! DUD
Gene Okerlund catches up with the British Bulldogs, newcomers to the WWF
King Kong Bundy v Aldo Marino: Bruno throws all sorts of shade at Bundy, noting that ‘he’s not nearly as tall as Andre,’ and then talking about how he’s mostly fat, and not really very muscular. And the funny this is that he says all of this in a well meaning way, like he’s just doing analysis, but it feels out of place. I appreciate the honesty, though! Bundy with an avalanche at 2:23. DUD
Okerlund catches up with Ricky Steamboat, who assess the level of competition in the WWF
Ricky Steamboat v Rusty Brooks: Brooks actually throws a dropkick here, which is pretty awesome. Steamboat with a flying splash at 3:02. This was energetic. ¼*
Roddy Piper hosts Piper’s Pit, and he’s still stewing about Paul Orndorff messing everything up at WrestleMania
WWF Women's Title Match: Leilani Kai v Wendi Richter: From WrestleMania on March 31 in New York City. They fight over the initial lockup, and Richter powers her down for a hammerlock on the mat. Kai rips at the hair to escape, and grabs a wristlock, but Wendi slugs free, so Kai snapmares her over for a blatant choke. Richter counters with a bodyscissors, but Kai powers out, so Richter cradles her for two. That whole sequence was sloppy, and looked horribly amateurish. Kai with another snapmare, but she misses a charge into the corner, so Fabulous Moolah attacks her from the floor. That cues Cyndi Lauper for the save, but the damage is done, and Kai nails Richter with a big boot. She goes for the kill, but Richter rolls through a flying bodypress to win the title at 6:14. The match was garbage, but as a payoff to the Rock 'n' Wrestling stuff that set it up, it was great. ¼*
Ken Patera and Big John Studd v Joe Mirto and Jim Young: Jobber Mirto actually goes for a bodyslam on Studd right at the bell, completely cold. Man, even Hulk Hogan wouldn’t be that arrogant. Studd scores the pin at 4:23. This dragged. DUD
Okerlund catches up with King Kong Bundy and Jim Neidhart, so Jimmy Hart can put over his collection of powerhouses.
BUExperience: This was okay, but very lowkey for a promotion coming off of one of the biggest shows ever.
