Goody Bag XII: The Four Horsewomen of NXT
Charlotte and Sasha Banks v Becky Lynch and Bayley: From NXT TV, July 3 2014. Banks starts with Bayley, and they feel each other out. Bayley dominates with a Japanese armdrag before passing out to Becky, and Lynch armdrags her over for an armbar, but Sasha powers into the corner for a tag. Reversal sequence ends in Bayley armdragging Charlotte over for her own armbar, and Bayley tags in for a tandem vertical suplex. That brings Sasha running in, but they take her out with a tandem clothesline, and the heels bail to regroup. Bayley gives chase, but eats a baseball slide from Charlotte while preoccupied with Sasha, and inside, they cut the ring in half on her. She manages to fight off a double-team long enough to get the hot tag to Becky, and she's a lass of fire, but runs into the Natural Selection from Charlotte at 9:00. This was nothing. *
Charlotte v Becky Lynch: From NXT TV, August 21 2014. Charlotte is the NXT Women's Champion here, but this is non-title. Becky looks super cute tonight. Charlotte quickly takes her down with a waistlock into a front-facelock, but Becky wrestles out, and takes her down in a toehold. Charlotte counters into a cradle for two, then grounds her challenger with a leglock, but Becky counters into a cradle of her own for two. Magistral cradle gets two, but she gets pounded in the corner, and Charlotte bootchokes her down. Snapmare sets up a mat-based headscissors, but Becky bridges back into a cradle for two, so Charlotte levels her with a lariat for two. Slugfest goes Charlotte's way, but a charge doesn't, and Becky fires off a pair of running clotheslines, and a leg lariat. Pair of legdrops get two, but Charlotte counters a vertical suplex into an exploder suplex, and the Natural Selection finishes at 4:11. Criminally short, but they packed a lot into those four minutes! ** ¾
NXT Women's Title Match: Sasha Banks v Charlotte: From NXT TV, March 4 2015. Sasha makes Charlotte chase her around a bit, but that doesn't end well for her when the challenger catches up. Banks bails after getting smacked around, and decides to take the title and walk, but Charlotte drags her back in, and a slingshot schoolgirl gets two. Cravat sets up a series of kneelifts, and Charlotte slaps on the Figure Eight early on, but Sasha gets the ropes, and bails again. Banks manages to take her down with a snapmare, and she gets the Bank Statement on, but Charlotte counters into a cradle for two - countered back by Banks with a crucifix cradle for two! Sleeper, but Charlotte drops back to shake her off. She goes up for the flying moonsault, but Banks dodges, so Charlotte lands on her feet and shifts into a somersault senton splash instead - only for Sasha to lift her knees to block! That wasn't as smooth as when they did that spot in the R-Evolution match, but it's still really cool. Sasha bootchokes her to setup the double-kneedrop in the corner, and she wraps Charlotte's body around the ring post for two. Sasha gets nasty with a lungblower that she hangs onto for a straightjacket, but Charlotte powers out, and schoolgirls her for two. Sasha cuts her off with a dropkick for two, and another lungblower sets up the Statement, but Charlotte gets the ropes! Frustrated, Banks charges, but Charlotte sidesteps, and the champion goes crashing out of the ring. Back in for a slugfest, and Charlotte manages a neckbreaker, quickly followed by a spear for two. Vertical suplex, but Sasha blocks, and victory cradles her for two. Sloppy spot there, but they did a good job of saving it. Figure four, but Charlotte blocks, and clips the knee. She punishes Banks for using her move with a ring post figure four, but Sasha blocks the Natural Selection off the top, and hooks a leveraged pin to retain at 11:10. Kind of ironic that a Flair would get pinned by that. A few sloppy spots, but the usual awesome match between them. These two are like the textbook definition of 'good friends, better enemies.' *** ¾
#1 Contender's Match: Becky Lynch v Bayley: From NXT TV, August 12 2015. Feeling out process to start, until Bayley blocks a charge in the corner, and one-handed bulldogs Becky down for two. Reversal sequence ends in Bayley rolling her up for two, and an elbowdrop gets two. Becky with a nice hammerlock-suplex for two, and she starts working Bayley's arm in tenacious fashion. Why is the referee wearing gloves? No one's bleeding. Unless... nah, never mind. Bayley escapes a suplex and fires back with a somersault cradle for two, then an Oklahoma roll for two. Backslide gets two, but she gets caught with a pumphandle-suplex, and Becky adds a series of legdrops - only to miss the third! That allows Bayley a seated hangman's clothesline, and a 2nd rope flying backelbow gets two. The arm slows her down and allows Becky to attack, but Bayley manages to crotch her on the top turnbuckle, and front-powerslam her down for two. Suplex, but Becky blocks, and takes her down into the Dis-Arm-Her, but Bayley has the ropes! Capture suplex, but Bayley counters with a snap suplex. Bayley-to-Belly, but Becky counters to the Dis-Arm-Her - only for Bayley to counter into a schoolgirl at 12:47. Took a little while to get going, but the psychology was sound (albeit didn’t factor into the finish), and the ending sequence was terrific. ***
