CHAIR SHOTS AND MISCARRIAGES OF JUSTICE
WWE HELL IN A CELL 2016
BY: DOUBLE M
History set to be made in historic Boston, Mass
as RAW triples the main events, triples the hell inside a cell, and [insert a
classic Jerry Lawler ‘WHAT?!’ here] the ladies not only take the main stage but
locked inside the house that Mick Foley and Undertaker built. Well in
Mrs. Foley’s baby boy’s case fell off but you get the reference. And
since we’re being technical 3 main events? Yeah sure whatever you say
Steph. Lets ring the bell and let’s go bananas.
BEST MATCH: Women’s Championship Sasha Banks/Charlotte.
So the challenger jumps the bell leading to 35 minutes of action that
included chair shots, fighting in the crowd, crashing through tables [one from
a powerbomb off the side of the cage], cage shots, the champ almost being
crushed by the cage, camera cables [seriously we broadcast in HD on cell phones
the size of a small book, we still need cables for cameras?]. Not bad for
the first go around where the main event featured women. This was no
catfight, this was a fierce battle made for a stipulation like hell in a cell.
I’ve made the point before about frequent championship changes being an
annoyance, but The Boss and Charlotte
are the exception to the rule as the best women in the business broke so much
ground The Donald could build 3 hotels to bankrupt on it. Numerous times we saw
Charlotte illustrate the expression “be careful
what you wish for, you just might get it” and Sasha’s pure disdain for Charlotte. In the
end Charlotte
proved to be too much. It’s probably best for a break in this feud if for
no other reason than to keep Sasha alive.
WORST MATCH: I’m combining this section with
‘Most Disappointing’ for more an observation of the call ups in WWE. With
the exception of Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch,
and I’d even put Alexa Bliss in that company. Enzo and Cass are fun but
their matches are basically the same. Enzo gets knocked around for a big,
Cass cleans house and then all hell breaks loose and a decision follows.
The Vaudvillans have basically followed the same route of the silent
movie since the botch with Enzo. Nia Jax is to be determined, however
from what I’ve seen, like Alexa Bliss, there’s potential. Sami Zayn came
in like a house of fire with his feud with Silent Owens, but since really
hasn’t had much to work with as his losses mount. Which brings me to
Bayley.
Brought on RAW after the Universe wouldn’t be
silenced as they saw it such a miscarriage of justice she wasn’t drafted by
either brand, she had a run as part of Sasha Banks’ feud with Charlotte
taking on Charlotte’s
protege Dana Brooke. Now she seeks a shot at the Women’s belt.
While Bayley is the poster of the ‘baby face’, to paraphrase Charlotte when reacting
to Bayley’s “challenge” [watch the after show and you’ll see why I use quotes]
she has the look a fan trying to live the dream. Given the success of the
other three-quarters of the Four Horsewomen, it seems as though that’s about as
far as Bayley can go. Her promos are flat, matches lack the fire to meet
the standard of the big time. I liken her to a ballplayer that can tear
it up in the minors, or even a small-to-medium sized market, but when given the
shot at the big time or in a major market like Boston,
LA or New
York they flounder. I don’t doubt the potential
or ability Bayley has, for whatever reason she seems overwhelmed. Watch
Bayley’s interview on the after show and you’ll see how painful it’s become.
Call me crazy but I can’t help but wonder if perhaps linking her with a
group like The New Day would help. Both have similar positive, happy, and
colorful [literally] personas, The New Day are excellent at promos and put on a
pretty good match, with their backing it could create a solid stable and
sanctuary for Bayley.
BEST MOMENT: Reference the ‘Best Match’
section, and the reason I do this is because of the barrier broken. WWE
Network has a documentary on the Women’s Revolution and how women’s role in WWE
has changed over the years, it can’t be said enough the ground broken not just
being a Hell in a Cell, but just how it played out as the main event.
There was a ferocity and physicality rarely seen in the women’s division
I’d dare say at any point. There’s no doubt a lot of potential for more
of the women to step up and could put a lot of heat on the men to tighten their
games up which is good for all of us.
PARTING SHOTS:
-Get your ‘Sheamus Flaming Dumpsters’ now at the
Chair Shots merch shop for 3 easy payments of $999 and 1 really complicated
payment price TBD today!!!!
-Yet another missed opportunity to end The New
Day’s run. Seriously enough time to pursue, go back and forth between
them and Sheamus/Cesaro I don’t care weak ending again.
-Quite the slug fest with Rusev and Reigns but a
mighty swing and a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
-Silent Owens and Charlotte deserve thank you
cards for their reactions entering the HIAC. Loved how Owens basically
wet himself before he even got in, and Charlotte all cool as a cucumber…. then
the cage started coming down. Insert loud girly scream here.
-Who do the Cruiserweights think they are with
their special purple ropes. Lightweight ego-manics.
-Pretty sure we all saw Y2J getting involved in
that match. [Looks around the blog]. Nice to see we’re all on the
same page with that one. No issues except that it basically stopped the
match as we all saw [checks the blog again… yup all in agreement] that it
was a matter of time before Rollins lost.
-Bonus of a RAW event: NO KURT HAWKINS!
Fact!
Angry Rating Scale: 6. This was bore
until KO and Seth Rollins locked horns, from then on this event wasn’t too
shabby. Despite its shortcomings the tag team and women’s divisions still
shine brighter on RAW than on Smackdown [which should come as no surprise].
Still not sure what to make of the Cruiserweights, another shout out to
Sasha and Charlotte for a solid close out.
