WWF Superstars (October 31, 1992)

Original Airdate: October 31, 1992 (taped October 12)

From Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect. Oddly, they're not really playing up the Halloween angle at all, which is really weird for a show that was stretching for stuff like National Hamburger Week to find themes

WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Natural Disasters v Money Inc: This is actually from a different set of tapings (in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada on October 13 1992), and taped for Wrestling Challenge, where it would air on November 1. And we get Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan on commentary. The Nasty Boys come out to protest Money Inc being granted the title shot, getting in both their, and Jimmy Hart's faces. Ted DiBiase tries to cool them down with cold, hard cash, but the Nasties attack them anyway after taking it! Well, at least the weeks of build went somewhere, and the Nasties are babyfaces now, though, really, who's going to cheer those two? The champs capitalize by attacking the battered champions, kick starting the match. Irwin R. Schyster ends up down on the outside to allow the Disasters to go to work on Ted, but IRS trips Typhoon up as he goes for the Tidal Wave, and DiBiase is able to recover. It's kind of weird that the angle used to set this up is pretty much note for note the same angle that turned the Disasters face earlier in the year. Money Inc go to work on Typhoon, but Irwin stupidly tries to suplex him, and gets reversed. That allows the hot tag to Earthquake, and Roseanne Barr the door! Earthquake hits Ted with a powerslam to set up the Earthquake Splash, but now the Headshrinkers show up, and the champs get distracted. That allows Money Inc to dump Earthquake over the top, and the champion ends up hitting the guardrail on the way out. Back in, Money Inc take turns trying to put Earthquake away with sleepers, but he keeps fighting them off, so DiBiase brings out the big guns with the Million Dollar Dream. And that actually works, with Earthquake giving three arm drops to lose the gold at 8:26. Not surprisingly, this was pretty much it for the Disasters, as they were made to look like a couple of jobbers here, unable to so much as hold control for long against two guys who got beat up before the match even started. Also not surprisingly, the match sucked. But kudos to them for booking a clean submission finish like that, I was sure there was going to be some sort of cheap shot or interference. Surprisingly (we were due), they'd acknowledge Money Inc as champions for the rest of the Superstars taping that the rest of this card is from, even though they wouldn't win the belts until the next day. Afterwards, Jimmy rushes over to the announce position to gloat to Gorilla and Bobby, but the Nasty Boys interrupt, attacks Hart to cement their face turn. Monsoon taking pleasure in Jimmy's misery is a nice touch. ¾*

Yokozuna v Bill Jordan: This is Yoko's TV debut, and Mr. Fuji is still sporting his tuxedo look at this point. He's huge, though he looks positively slender compared to how he'd look just a few years later. Yokozuna with an energetic squash here, and the crowd ooohs and ahhhs at all the right moments. Banzai Drop finishes at 1:50. ¼*

Last week, Undertaker and Nailz looked at each other

Shawn Michaels wants Bret Hart to know that he deserves the WWF Title more than the Hitman does. But he's not bitter. Yet

WWF Intercontinental Champion Davey Boy Smith has harsh words for 'Mr. Mountie.' Davey was terrible in this role, and SummerSlam moving to England was literally the luckiest thing that ever happened to the guy

Bam Bam Bigelow is coming! And he's really sweaty

Tatanka v Dale Wolfe: Doink the Clown (in his debut) is spotted in the crowd, though he's unnamed at this point. What's up with this jobbers rainbow leopard print gear? If he's not from New Jersey, I'll eat my hat. Tatanka with the End of the Trail at 2:36, as Doink causes a ruckus out in the stands. DUD

Joe Bevins brings Ric Flair and Razor Ramon out for an interview about Survivor Series. I'm guessing Bevins was an early attempt at replacing Mooney, before they found Todd Pettengill. Though this role is usually Gene Okerlund's, so I don't know what the deal is. He's pretty terrible, and I'm glad he didn't last long. Some little girl putting her fingers in her ears to drown out Flair's raspy screaming is the highlight here

Gene Okerlund is in the studio with the Survivor Series Report. Where has he been all day?

Jim Duggan still wants you to vote for the candy date of your choice

Shawn Michaels v Steve May: As Shawn poses in his mirror during the entrances, he's shocked to see Marty Jannetty over his shoulder, and his former partner beats the stuffing out of him. He steals the mirror away from Sensational Sherri to get some revenge on Shawn for their last encounter, but Michaels shoves Sherri into the path, and Marty accidentally smashes it over her head, triggering a stretcher job. Hey, Sherri was never shy about taking bumps for her men. Shawn's got a title shot coming up! She knew what she signed up for. This was a great surprise return, with Marty appearing for the first time since diving through the Barber Shop window back in January. Jannetty sporting a Guns 'n' Roses t-shirt is a nice touch of realism

Tatanka is all worked up about those feathers Rick Martel stole, like, a year ago, and suddenly he remembered he wants them, but Rick Martel tells him he betters comes and takes its from us

Big Boss Man finally has a match with Nailz scheduled, and it's gonna be a Nightstick match at Survivor Series. And after months and months of build, boy did that one end up falling completely flat, with Boss Man getting all of thirty seconds of offense in on Nailz before pinning him to end the feud

Jimmy Hart is fuming about the Nasty Boys, and fuming about President Jack Tunney, who has already signed the new tag champions against High Energy next week

BUExperience: Wow, okay, let’s all stop and take a breath. This was a legitimately great episode, as they crammed in basically an entire tapings worth of stuff into one show.
