WWF Prime Time Wrestling (September 22, 1986)

Original Airdate: September 22, 1986

Your Hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan from the studio

Pat Patterson v Kamala: From New York City on September 22 1984. Kamala attacks before the bell, and beats Pat into the corner, but Patterson fights him off. Patterson tries a bodyslam, but Kamala proves too big, and Pat ends up bailing to avoid getting clobbered again. After some regrouping, they hook up for a test-of-strength, with Pat immediately stomping the foot as soon as they connect. Patterson pounds on the part, but Kamala whacks him with a chop, and that’s the end of that. Kamala unloads, and a splash finishes at 5:30. Total junk, but effective. DUD

Terry Gibbs v Moondog Rex: From New York, January 21 1985. Joined in progress, with Rex blocking a backdrop, and pounding Gibbs down. Rex drops him across the top rope before slapping a chinlock on, and a backbreaker gets him two. Back to the hold, but Gibbs escapes, and makes a comeback. Terry lands a backelbow for two, and a side suplex is worth two. Gibbs tries a backdrop, but Rex blocks that again, and drops him with a neckbreaker at 6:38 shown of 10:14. I can comfortably call this a DUD

Ken Resnick catches up with George Steele, who either wants to buttfuck Randy Savage, or Elizabeth. Or both. Not clear

WWF Women's Tag Team Title Match: Velvet McIntyre and Desiree Peterson v Penny Mitchell and Peggy Patterson: From East Rutherford New Jersey on the December 30 1984 episode of All American Wrestling (taped December 10). No word on whether Peggy is Pat in drag. And then the commentators wonder if they’re related, so I’m going to assume ‘yes.’ Velvet and Peggy start, and there’s lots of posturing. The heels get control and cut the ring in half on Desiree, but she sneaks away long enough for the hot tag to Velvet. She runs wild on Penny, but gets cut off, and the heels take control on Velvet. Tag back to Desiree, but she also gets clobbered, and the heels work her over again. Oh, just get to it, already. Finally a proper got tag to Velvet, and Roseanne Barr the door. Velvet catches Peggy with a sunset flip for three at 17:14. This was excruciatingly long. ¾*

The British Bulldogs v Jack Foley and Les Thornton: From Superstars on September 13 1986 in Providence Rhode Island (taped August 26). This is notable as Jack is a very young Mick Foley, in his professional debut. And it’s only the second ever episode of Superstars, so history all around. Dynamite Kid puts Jack away with a side superplex at 3:42, ending a very energetic squash. ½*

From Tuesday Night Titans, Nikolai Volkoff shows up with a ‘Russian bear,’ and Slick is pleased to see he’s “had the good sense to be born black”

Moondog Spot v Jose Luis Rivera: Luis is subbing for Pedro Morales, and this is in Boston Massachusetts on April 26 1986. Joined in progress, with Rivera getting control, using an armbar. Spot escapes, so Rivera uses a hiptoss, and goes to a wristlock. Spot quickly breaks out of that one as well, so Rivera delivers a bodyslam, and goes to an armbar. Spot escapes, and delivers a 2nd rope kneedrop for two this time. Backdrop, but Rivera counters with a sunset flip for two, so Spot clobbers him, and uses a high knee for two. Spot goes to a chinlock, but a second kneedrop off the middle misses, and Rivera makes a comeback. An elbowdrop gets him two, and a dropkick is worth two. Irish whip, but Spot reverses, and catches him with a shoulderbreaker at 11:10 shown of 12:20. ½*

Resnick catches up with WWF Intercontinental Champion Randy Savage, and he doesn’t think Steele’s bullshit is cute

WWF Tag Team Title Match: The Dream Team v The Killer Bees: From Boston on December 7 1985. Greg Valentine and B. Brian Blair start, and they posture for a bit, before Greg takes him to the mat in an armbar. Blair escapes with a firemans carry, so Valentine tries a headscissors, but Blair blocks, and they get back to a vertical base. Greg tries an Irish whip, but Blair reverses, and powerslams him. That draws Brutus Beefcake in, but Blair slams him as well, and hits Valentine with an atomic drop to clean house. Back in, Blair with a suplex for two, and he tags Jim Brunzell in to deliver a backelbow for two. and the Bees dominate Valentine, working the leg of the champion. Blair gets into trouble, however, and the heels take control, cutting the ring in half. Beefcake misses a dive, allowing the hot tag to Brunzell, and Roseanne Barr the door! I like Jesse Ventura speculating that Jim grew a beard “because he was tired of looking sixteen years old,” that’s great. Brunzell gets Beefcake in a sleeper, but Valentine dives on him with an axehandle, and Brutus falls on top for the pin at 9:54. This was energetic and nicely paced. **

BUExperience: A really weak episode this week, definitely one you can safely skip, but make sure to check out young Mick Foley in action.
