WWF at Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum (June 13, 1992)

Original Airdate: June 13, 1992

From Oakland, California

Opening Match: Kerry Von Erich v Kato: Posturing to start, and Kato dumps him over the top. Von Erich beats the count, so Kato hammers him with forearms, and snaps his throat across the top rope. Turnbuckle smash, but Von Erich reverses, and unloads on the masked man. Von Erich with a cross corner whip, but the charge in misses, and Kato tags him with a backelbow for two. Sleeper, but Kerry reverses, so Kato uses a jawbreaker to escape. Kato looks for a tomahawk chop, but Von Erich blocks, and nails him with the discus punch at 5:18. ¼*

Crush v Skinner: This referee is super thorough for the pre-match pat downs. Posturing to start, and the first criss cross sees Crush nearly knock him into next week with a shoulderblock. Great sell from Skinner there. Crush continues powering him around, and a press-backbreaker ends in Skinner bailing. Skinner manages a cheap shot to turn the tide, and he dumps Crush to the outside, but Crush beats the count to the apron, so Skinner ropechokes him. Inside, Skinner gets a chinlock on, and he uses the ropes for leverage. Crush escapes, and goes to the top with a flying tomahawk chops, and a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker leads to the headvice at 8:31. This was shockingly similar to the opener. ¼*

The Legion of Doom v The Beverly Brothers: Animal starts with Blake Beverly, and he powers him around. Blake manages to fire back with a powerslam and an axehandle, but a criss cross ends in Animal returning the favor with a powerslam of his own. Beau Beverly runs in, but Animal quickly dispatches him, and the Brothers bail. The dust settles on Hawk and Beau, and Hawk immediately decks him, so Beau bails. The Brothers stall, but the tactic doesn’t help, as Hawk still press-slams Beau once he engages. Hawk with a chop in the corner, but a clothesline misses, and Beau bails again. They may not be frustrating the LOD, but I’m another matter. Tag to Blake on the way back in, and he manages to hammer on Hawk. Blake dumps him across the top rope, but Hawk no-sells, and unloads. Blake responds by bailing, but he fails to distance himself, and Hawk pulls him back in for a facebuster. A big boot connects, and Hawk hammers him in the corner. A cross corner whip sets up a charge, but Blake sidesteps, and Hawk takes a bump to the outside. Beau is quick to attack him on the floor, and the Brothers take control, working Hawk over as they cut the ring in half. Animal catches the hot tag, and Roseanne Barr the door! The Brothers try double teaming, but it goes nowhere for them, and a bearhug/flying clothesline combo allows Animal to pin Blake at 10:03. Nothing special, but fairly energetic, and engaging work. *

Ultimate Warrior v Papa Shango: Warrior charges in and clotheslines Papa over the top to kickstart the match, and he follows to nail him again on the outside. Warrior with a flying axehandle on the way back in, and he delivers a second one for good measure. Warrior with a turnbuckle smash ahead of a cross corner whip, and he follows in for a corner clothesline. Corner splash, but Papa sidesteps, and capitalizes with a jumping clothesline. Papa adds a bodyslam and a sidewalk slam, and he slaps on a nervehold. Warrior powers up, so Shango starts hammering on him, and a shoulderblock connects, but a second misses, allowing Warrior to toss him over the top. Shango responds by using voodoo to subdue Warrior, and he ropechokes him. Gosh, and this was actually a pretty solid match before the stupid magic shit had to creep in. Warrior fights him off in the corner, and uses a series of turnbuckle smashes, but a charge gets blocked with a clothesline. Another, but Warrior ducks, and bodyslams him. Splash, but Papa gets his knees up to block, and delivers a trio of elbowdrops. Papa uses the inverted shoulderbreaker for two, but Warrior gets fired up and makes a comeback, so Papa uses more voodoo to give him cramps, and then nails him with his voodoo stick for the DQ at 10:26. None of this had ‘guy who will be challenging for the world title at the second biggest show of the year’ energy. ¾*

The Nasty Boys v High Energy: Brian Knobbs and Koko B Ware start, and Knobbs immediately hammers him into the corner to take control. Cross corner whip, but Koko reverses, and throws a dropkick to send Brian to the outside. Jerry Sags and Owen Hart tag in, and Owen uses a flying axehandle, so Sags goes to the eyes. That allows him a wristlock, but Hart starts to escape, so Jerry throws a clothesline. Sags with a turnbuckle smash, but Hart avoids a cross corner whip, and uses one of his own. Owen adds a hiptoss and a pair of legdrops, and he grabs a wristlock, but Sags quickly turnbuckle smashes him. Wristlock, but Owen escapes, so Knobbs takes a cheap shot, and Hart ends up down on the outside. The Nasties take control, working Owen over, but Koko gets in, and Roseanne Barr the door! Koko hits Knobbs with the missile dropkick, but Sags breaks the cover, and pins Ware at 6:04. ¾*

Sgt. Slaughter v Mountie: Slaughter starts going to work on him before they even get out of their entrance gear, beating on Mountie with his riding crop in full view of the referee. The officiating tonight has been something. Mountie bails, but Slaughter chases, and sends him into the guardrail. Inside, Slaughter uses a series of turnbuckle smashes, and a ten-punch count, before tossing Mountie back to the outside for a chair shot. Man, Slaughter is all fired up here. Into the post next, but Mountie reverses, and gets the countout at 2:28. The match was nothing, but I really enjoyed full crazy pants Slaughter. ¼*

Main Event: WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Bret Hart v Shawn Michaels: Shawn attacks as Bret is climbing in from giving away his shades, and the challenger puts the boots to him. Shawn takes him to the outside for a trip into the post, and he leaves him out there for Sherri to abuse, but makes sure to keep the referee busy so no countout can be made. Inside, Michaels catches him with a high knee for two, but Hart counters a hiptoss with a backslide for two. Michaels quickly cuts him off, and goes to work. A chinlock wears the Hitman down, but Bret fights free, and uses a pair of shoulderblocks. A third, but Michaels dodges, and Hart takes a bump to the outside, where Sherri is waiting for him. Bret still manages a slingshot sunset flip for two on the way back in, but Shawn cuts him off again - going to the eyes to win a slugfest. Michaels with a corner whip, but Hart blocks the charge in, and goes on the comeback trail. A pointed elbowdrop gets the champion two, and a backbreaker gets another two. Hart uses an inverted atomic drop to set up a 2nd rope pointed elbowdrop for two, so Sherri tries a distraction, but it backfires, allowing the Hitman a schoolboy at 8:35. Pretty low level work for these two. *

BUExperience: Really nothing special here. It would have been a fun enough show to attend, but certainly nothing worth watching now.
