From Glens Falls, New York; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Dok Hendrix
Yokozuna and Owen Hart v John Crystal and Leroy Howard: Yokozuna’s weight had really gotten out of hand by this point. He’s enormous, and looks like he can barely move around. It’s amazing how quickly he declined. The Banzai drop finishes at 2:32. Yoko looked so uncomfortable here. Like, physically uncomfortable. DUD
Smoking Gunns video package
Backstage, Jeff Jarrett and Roadie shine the WWF Intercontinental title belt up
Razor Ramon v Mark Starr: Razor’s got some cool blue gear this week. I keep forgetting Ramon isn’t the Intercontinental champion at this point. I associate this whole era with him as the champion, and have a hard time reconciling other champions. The Razor’s Edge finishes at 3:41, complete with an arrogant cover. DUD
Vince wants to get a word with Hunter Hearst Helmsley via videophone, but Hunter gives him the silent treatment. How prescient
Stephanie Wiand is in the studio for the In Your House Report
Backstage, Aldo Montoya is ready for his shot at the Intercontinental gold
Kama v Tony Roy: We get a fan doing the ring announcing for this one. Vince always gets so excited for these, but it’s that obvious phony excitement of his - usually complete with that forced laugh of his. Dok is doing a bit in every squash where claims the jobbers are related to different famous people, and while I appreciate the effort, the bit is terrible, and he’s terrible at delivering it. Kama with a flying splash at 2:24. Kama was trying here. ¼*
Bob Backlund is on spring break, trying to cover up girls in the bikini contest. I’m pretty sure none of those college kids had any idea who he was, but they seemed to enjoy him as a random crazy old man
WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Jeff Jarrett v Aldo Montoya: Jeff wins the initial lockup, but gloats with a strut, and Montoya gives it to him with an armdrag. Another one frustrates the champion, so Jeff accuses him of a hair pull, but the referee isn’t buying it. Jeff manages a standing side-headlock, but Aldo forces a criss cross, and wins it with a trip of armdrags into an armbar. Jeff complains of hair pulling again while in the hold, but throwing a knee gets him more traction than the baseless accusations. Jeff with a pop-up flapjack and a dropkick ahead of a straddling ropechoke, but Aldo dodges him in the corner. Montoya tries a springboard bodypress, but Jeff ducks, and Aldo wipes out. Jarrett with a swinging neckbreaker ahead of a chinlock, but Montoya escapes. He tries a rollup, but Jarrett blocks, and drops him with another swinging neckbreaker for two. Jeff with a corner whip for two, so he goes back to the chinlock, and uses the ropes for leverage this time. Aldo escapes, so Roadie look for an assist, but it backfires. That allows Montoya to make a comeback, and a jumping forearm gets him two. The fake crowd noise for the comeback is pretty over the top here. Roadie interferes again, so Razor Ramon chases him off, and Aldo cradles for two. A schoolboy gets another two, and a 2nd rope bodypress is worth two. A corner whip sets up a corner dropkick, but a 2nd rope bulldog misses, and Jeff gets the figure four on at 9:19. Like the match that set it up, this was solid. * ½
Wiand is back with another In Your House Report. The big news is that Sycho Sid is now part of the Million Dollar Corporation, which honestly feels like a big step down for him
Hunter Hearst Helmsley is smelling farts
Duke Droese v Roy Raymond: Droese seems to have gotten some upgraded gear here, which now says his name on it, so expect a title run any day now. Unusual moment here: the jobber actually gets to kick out of something. That almost never happened in the WWF. Duke with a tilt-a-whirl slam at 3:38. DUD
Hunter is wafting the farts now
BUExperience: Pretty good episode this week, with a solid feature match (and surrounding segments). The only real negative was Dok on commentary, he came close to ruining this completely.
