WWF Superstars (May 13, 1995)

Original Airdate: May 13, 1995 (taped April 25)

From Des Moines, Iowa; Your Hosts are Vince McMahon and Dok Hendrix

Razor Ramon v Todd Becker: I never liked when Razor would mix and match gear, and this green tights/pads coupled with yellow boots is especially bad. But, at least now we know what inspired Ric Flair’s choices in 1996. Ramon with the Razor’s Edge at 2:38. DUD

Bam Bam Bigelow is sick of Ted DiBiase and the Million Dollar Corporation

Rad Radford v Jerry Lynn: Kind of odd that we never got a single vignette for Radford on this show before he just suddenly appears. I’m guessing there were some on other shows, but it’s surprising there was nothing here. Also, what the hell is this gear? Like, his entrance outfit fits the gimmick, but his actual gear is a total miss. Rad with a bridging northern lights suplex at 2:47. ¼*

Todd Pettengill is in the studio for the In Your House Report

Doink the Clown v Brooklyn Brawler: We get a fan doing the ring announcing for this one. Doink and Dink are still a thing this far along? I really don’t remember anything with them past late 1994, but here they still are, on the cusp of summer. Doink with the Whoopie Cushion at 2:24. DUD

Bodydonnas vignette

Men on a Mission v Tommy Ferrara and Buck Zumhoff: I kind of forgot that Men on a Mission are heels now. Shows how effective this turn was. Mabel with a belly-to-belly suplex at 2:17. DUD

Bob Backlund is on spring break, ranting. Boy, they sure got a lot of mileage out of the five minutes of footage they shot that day

Diesel v Henry Godwinn: The WWF Title is not on the line here, and the idea is that Ted DiBiase might be paying Godwinn to soften Diesel up for Sycho Sid at In Your House. Diesel wins a criss cross with a jumping clothesline, and a corner whip sets up a corner clothesline. Diesel adds a corner splash, and he unloads elbows and knees against the buckles. Diesel with a bootchoke, and a bodyslam sets up an elbowdrop for two. Clothesline, but Godwinn ducks, and dumps Diesel over the top. Henry follows to ram him into the apron out there, followed by a few trips to the post, all targeting the back. Inside, Henry uses a bodyslam to set up an elbowdrop for two, and a sidewalk slam gets two. Henry tries to unload in the corner, but Diesel fights him off, only to telegraph a backdrop, and eat a facebuster for two. Godwinn stomps on the back ahead of a camel clutch (or ‘Boston crab’ in Vince-speak), and a clothesline connects. Diesel throws right hands to fight back, as we see Sid observing on a monitor via split screen. Godwinn cuts off the comeback, and goes back to work on the back. He goes to a reverse chinlock, but Diesel powers to a vertical base in the hold, and uses an electric chair. That allows him to make a proper comeback, and a sidewalk slam is worth two. Diesel with the snake-eyes ahead of a straddling ropechoke, and a big boot finds its mark. Powerbomb, and we’re done at 9:46. Pretty solid action here, with both guys making an effort, and some cool power moves mixed with actual psychology. Afterwards, Sid and DiBiase come out to observe from the aisle. **

Todd is back with a second In Your House Report. I’m still not sure I get how ‘it’s cheap’ is supposed to work as the main selling point

Backstage, Raymond Rougeau attempts to catch up with Diesel, but there are audio issues, so we never hear the interview. Instead, Dok just tells us what he thinks Diesel is saying. I don’t know what’s worse… that they had issues and couldn’t just retape it, or that the issues were fake, and this was the actual planned segment

BUExperience: The feature match was okay (and had an angle tied to it), but this was pretty weak as far as go-home shows go.
